Today's haul:
Fates Warning - AtG (rerelease). I've yet to hear any of this.
Rush - Hold Your Fire. I've yet to hear any of it.
My Dying Bride - Antideluvian Chronicles. See above
Why?
Iommi/Hughes - Fused. Holy crap! This record OWNS.
It's WAAAYY HEAVIER than I expected. This record contains the nastiest Iommi riffs since 1992's Dehumanizer. But these songs are BETTER!
One riff is right out of Rage Against the Machine's book of heavy-groove. It's a monster record! The music is, to my ears, a mix of classic Sabbath groove, modern cruch a la Audioslave and 90s Iommi (Dep Sessions and his self-titles solo record). There's not much of a hint of 7th Star really.
Hughes is now, in part at least, responsible for two of the best releases so far in 2005: Fused and Soul Mover.
Hughes should be huge.....tis a shame that he continues to go mostly unnoticed.
