iPhone

You know, I have thought long and hard about getting a smart phone.
Then I realized I am on a PC all day at work.
By the time I get home, I have little interest in even going online.
Therefore, I chose against it for myself.
I am sure it is one of those things where once you have it, you can't imagine your life without it.
I guess, since I am "connected" during biz hours M - F in office, I can manage without.

I usually go with whatever the coolest phone is available for my free upgrade every two years. I am with VERIZON and recently got the LG Chocolate phone. I dig it, though I haven't loaded any songs on it. Through VCAST, there is this function where you can hold the phone up to the speaker and it will identify the song. If available through VCAST, you can then download the song, or the applicable ringtone.

I have no need for a smart phone/iphone styled thing. I only use a phone for talking, and the occasional random picture. I don't even have a text message plan!

I'm also on Verizon and got a free upgrade to a re-styled Razor. It's a little bigger and heavier than the original razor, but definitely more durable. I get much better reception on this phone than I do with the original razor that I had.

It's advertised as a music phone for Vcast, but I don't use that. I can upload MP3's to it and use it as a music player if I wanted. What sucks is that Verzion disables all of their phones' capabilities to use MP3's as ringtones. You have to buy the ringtown from Verizon's store. Blah!

The woman who sits next to me in Digital Animation class has an iPhone. I did a double take because it was the first time I had actually seen one in real life. In other words they seem rare here but maybe because it's a poor area. :)

True, though have you ever browsed the ring tones?
There is a metal section, with some pretty interesting stuff.
There are ringtones of everything from Exodus to Anthrax to Accept to Blind Guardian to King Diamond to even My Dying Bride!!!!

I have yet to purchase one, though I plan to sometime soon.
It's only $2.99.

iPhone has 2 programs that do this. One is Shazam. Works amazingly well, even with some obscure jazz and 40's music I tried. It's 100% free. The other one is called Midomi, and it does the same thing, BUT, it has a Sing and Hum feature, so you can sing into it, or hum a melody, and it finds the song. It's incredible.

I used to have the Moto Razor. I too thought I wouldn't need a smart phone... Until I got the iPhone. I can't imagine not having it now. When I used to travel, I would take my laptop with for email, and internet and such. No more. The last couple of trips I took I went with just the iPhone. Music, camera, videos, internet, email, phone, text messages... Seriously, this thing is such a time saver.

That English bloke, Andrew from that little band MDB has one as well.

Haha, I still have the Razr, but my plan is up in November close to Thanksgiving and I'm thinking about spending a little more money on something that would be considered a little more "technological".

For the money, any recommendations?

My phone is over 3 years old.

Who do you have service through?
Through VERIZON, you are eligible for an equipment upgrade every 18 months. It's perfect, because I pretty much get whatever was the latest and greatest in regular phones, just a little late (IE - I just got a Chocolate for free, though 2 years ago, those were over $100).

yeah? will that still enable me to get the internet and everything? see they dont tell you this shit in the stores. obviously ;p

If you already have a data plan on your current phone, then I believe yes. Now, that ONLY for the Edge network on the first gen Phone. The new one is 3g. BUT, WiFi will work, so anywhere you have an open WiFi spot, it works, and from what I hear, the UK has a lot of that. What's your current carrier?
