Hi Guys!
In this video Martin Birch is demostrating Iron Maiden guitar tracks. Do you know what does he mean by "tracked to give it more width" in 04:02?

Great question. I, too, would love to know. I know that Martin used a close mic and a room mic on The Number of the Beast for the guitars, but the details on that (mic type, mic placement, mixing technique) are impossible to find.

I absolutely love the guitar tone on Piece of Mind. Been trying to recreate it for years.

There is obviously some slap delay on rhythm guitars as well. Panned to the opposite side.

If you zoom in on the picture at the link below

you will notice that it appears that each guitarist has two tracks. Since the labeling is not very descriptive, and hard to read, to boot, we can only speculate, but based on what I have read from an interview with Adrian about recording The Number of the Beast, it seems that Martin may have used a close mic and a room mic on each guitar on that album.
