The closest they EVER came is S.O.D. and that was a blend of hardcore AND metal. Punk?? NO WAY!

They did some punk-covers but they are a metal-band. If you listen to their '82 demos then you can feel the punk influence.

Not punk, but some influnce. Anthrax music is too structured and complex to be full on punk. Of course the lyrics of the songs ring of the themes of Punk music.

I consider Anthrax to be a metal band, but I think they are/were indirectly influenced by punk. That is based on the fact that they are thrash metal to a degree, and thrash partially evolved from punk. Plus I've got a Guitar World from '93 where Scott talks about the influence The Ramones had on him growing up. I think that influence was mainly because they're both from Queens; not musical.
