Is Matt the person the narrator is talking about in "The Gift of Music?" I was just curious.

Very interesting question. Believe it or not, I was intending to ask this in my upcoming interview with Matt Smith I've been arranging with Ulterium. If it is answered in this thread I may refrain from asking it, but it's a great question regardless.

I believe all of his interviews are online. So there won't be any filming.

It is my understanding that yes, that was the intention of the song ("...gave a voice and sense of wonder to this lonely child/whose melodies ring forth Your coronation now"), but obviously that's just my translation - only Matt can answer this one with authority :p

See the child, ashamed and broken
Words can never come out right
Dreams of failure dance in his head every single night
But twelve words in a simple language suddenly make sense somehow
That little boy, once shy and awkward, stands before you now

^^^ The verse in question, for anyone wondering.

"Definately" is a strong word, though there's some good references in the song, like "whose melodies ring forth Your coronation now", which is exactly what Matt is blessed with to do everyday. But indeed, if this is the case, it adds a whole new dimension to the storyline, which is pretty touching.

Yes, that is the verse that came to my mind when I asked the question. Is it just simply a narrator saying he was once a shy and awkward boy or is it the author? Matt uses a lot of different perspectives in his songs, and though I lean more towards the side that Matt is the narrator, it is more reassuring hearing the author's intent.

Wow, it hadn't occurred to me yet that maybe Matt was writing about himself. Now that you mention it, it seems a strong possibility. Good thinking!

Actually I typed that without looking at the keyboard and while singing along to Absolution Day, so gimme a break!
Well you obviously weren't looking at your screen either, so what were you looking at?
