Alright, I have a few questions and since I haven't read the bible or anything, I thought maybe you people could give me your opinions.

Ok, so according to Dante, whoever goes to hell suffers horribly for eternity. Those who worship Satan go to hell right? So how come Satan tortures his followers, just like everybody else then?

One explanation could be that Satan is super-evil and just likes to torture everybody no matter if they love him or not.
Another explanation could be that god controls Satan and it's actually god who's torturing the people in hell and not Satan.

This could explain why Dante says Satan is crying all the time. Maybe Satan is sensitive and kind to his followers and hates to see them tortured and not being able to do anything about it... cause he's god's bitch.

The first theory sounds better to me but what do you people think?

i dont know the answer to your question because i have alwaws been told that the bible is a cult but if you really want an answer maybe reading the bible might help but it probably wont

Ok, if I am correct Satan used to serve with God in Heaven. Then for whatever reason God cast Satan out. And Satan wanting to get back into God's graces might be crying all the time because in order to get back with God he has to torture the souls of Humans that God sees as unfit to go to Heaven. In conclusion - God wants the wicked punished, God is punishing Satan, who wants back in Heaven, by making him punish the wicked. Maybe Satan has a soft spot for souls. Does that make any sense? If not, Im going to shut up now.

Most views on Heaven and Hell, Satan, and all that are vague in the bible. Basically, the story is such. Lucifer was cast out of Heaven for rebelling against God. All the angels who fought with him were cast as well. Now this is where it gets fuzzy, because in some interpretations, Hell was already populated by demons. But the fallen angels sort of took over *as devils?* and rule hell over the demons. Now, most religious types will go off about Satan *Lucifer* being entirely evil and torturing the damned out of malice. But the way it seems to translate is that Lucifer is pretty much just rebellious and those who go to hell sort of get punished by their own merits, it's not so much in his hands. Or he does it because he's still pissed about being thrown out of heaven and not being able to bask in God's light.

Lucifer ain't so much evil as just a fellow who don't take orders. I mean, look at the universe. He probably was just pissed out how poorly it was run and figured if he took power, it couldn't get much worse. And now he has to chomp on Judas and Brutus in the frozen center of hell? Demotions suck.

The same way I explain most bible-thumpers: ignorant, inbred morons who don't have time to think for themselves but want some deity to blame for everything. Can't be a devil worshiper without believing in Christianity first.

Yeah, it's been a while since I read The Divine Comedy, but I don't think it says anywhere that Satan is actually torturing anybody besides Judas, Brutus and... Cassius is it? The torturing is left to the demons, and I have no idea who they obey, god or satan or what. I was only wondering if the bible had any other explanation for this. But it seems whoever wrote it did a half-assed job.

P.S. the new UM servers suck

Why do you weigh such a large part of this on THE DIVINE COMEDY?

For all you know, he was just some crazy bastard who took too many drinks and heard a bunch of stories and had some strange dreams.

Anyway, according to christians, those who dont believe in god arent tortured for their sins based on dantes inferno, they are tortured by whatever they consider hell to be, basically, they/we create our own hell.I doubt this simply applies to agnostics and atheists, probably all christians too.

However, all this is taking into account that god exists, which is most definitely WRONG, since he was conjured up by a bunch of misfit hippy scum thousands of years ago.

Well it doesn't really matter what you base it on, The Divine Comedy or the bible, they're both bed-time stories. Since I've only read The Divine Comedy and not the bible, I based my assumption on what Dante said and asked whoever read the bible to tell me how the bible explains the satan issue.

Anyways, the funniest thing ever would be if there really is a god and when we die and go to hell all the christians lined up for heaven will be pointing at us and making fun of us. "Told ya dumbasses!"

Why would you want to live in a convalescent hospital for eternity? All the fun is down in the furnace. You think all the smart people, the music makers, the dreamers, the revoluntionaries are in HEAVEN? :)

Yeah man, hell all the way... In the city of Dis there's probably lots of metal concerts over there... along with drugs and prostitution... heaven in hell.

Well, I've already expressed my thoughts and opinions on religion, heaven, and hell many times on this board, and I pretty much still feel the same. Now, to your question Guerrilla, I think that it is obvious if you talk to a christian that most of them believe that Satan is evil and hates every mortal. And I have not ever read the bible, but I do know some of the basic stories, and, for example, in Adam and Eve, he convinces them to eat the forbidden apple (or was it just fruit?) from the tree. So I think that that says basically, that Satan is evil and wants us all to be damned. In my personal interpretation (although I don't believe in heaven or hell, or god or satan) I think that the second theory would be correct. I believe that the story of Lucifer, as some others have stated above, is that he rebelled against god in heaven because he thought that god was an evil dictator, and he brought some followers with him, but then god banished them all from heaven for treason, and put them in hell. I believe that from the story, satan would suffer just as much as those being punished, because all that he tried to do was fix a wrong, and he got put in hell for it. He didn't want to punish anyone, he just wanted to help.

Cause satan is stuck in a big frozen lake and can't go anywhere... and god probably bribes the demons. Yeah, he probably sends a few heaven virgins down to hell weekly for the demons to play with.
