is styx ever going to release another studio album of new material?

Why are you in a rush for another mediocre album that can only live in the shadows of this once great band? I am a huge Styx fan from back in the day and still listen to the old albums regularly (Paradise Theater on back). Let's face it, they lost the songwriting magic a long time ago. I have Brave New World and Cyclorama, and while they are good albums, they just can't compare to their 70s output. Without Dennis, they are missing a huge piece of the songwriting puzzle, JY ran out of ideas long ago, and Tommy is probably placing his best songs in one of his numerous other projects.

I'm in no hurry for a new studio album, because I'm done with this band. I've still got 10 killer albums and a couple of dvd concerts I can play when I'm craving some Styx.

i'd be alright if tommy was releasing new solo stuff or whatever but he's had 1 solo album since the 80's. the new shaw blades album is cover songs, the newest styx studio album is cover songs, lets get some new material. although i heard the live concert they released with the orchestra has 2 new songs on it (1 live and 1 studio). you are right the 2 newest albums aren't as good as the old stuff but still a band needs to make albums to keep its fanbase

But, if their new albums are sub-par, don't they risk alienating their fanbase? That's what they've done with me. I considered Styx one of my top five rock bands at one time, but they are sliding down the list with each mediocre studio album they release. I think they might want to quit while they're behind :D

well then tommy (who is the only member anyone cares about now) needs to make some new original studio albums and just leave styx as a touring band. i have a feeling they might hang it up soon though. tommy and JY are in their mid 50's now and chuck is only a part time member. deyoung is probably never coming back. i did hear in 2005 tommy said there will be another studio album so i guess they aren't done yet. just moving slow

I agree that Styx is likely about done. JY is also a part-timer now, with his wife having serious health issues. And if Tommy is the only guy left from the classic 70s line-up, he should just do a solo album.

i like tommy's work is damn yankees and shaw/blades. i just got his late 90's solo album 7 deadly zens and its really good. he should just do another album like that or better yet how about a damn yankees reunion. i know they actually recorded a 3rd damn yankees album in the late 90's but it was shelved by the band due to poor production. how about fix the production or make another album. ted said he will retire from music soon. why not have styx, night ranger and ted tour together and then at the end of the show the damn yankees do a few numbers. of course this means ted's touring drummer would need to be the damn yankees drummer

Good idea for a tour. I'm also surprised Damn Yankees hasn't had a reunion. All their peers have!

well all of the songs for the 3rd album have basically appeared on releases by blades, night ranger, ted nugent and styx but its not the same because it doesn't have all 4 guys playing on them
