but still winter in umeå.

except it's fucking raining and not snowing. boo!

i am taking lots of pictures, maybe I'll get a chance to u/l some in another day or so. we shall see. swedish keyboards continue to confound me.

so avi, i was reading some of the reviews n stuff on your site. i have that '14 yr old girl' syndrome kicking in as well (avi said his taste in swedish music resembles a 14 yr old girl, not that the underagers in sweden are hott, which is also true). been watching a lot of M and Z TV when im home with the kids in the morning or whenever and enjoying the fuck out of millencolin, the ark (who i already liked from dark tranquillitys bus [/scenester, azal was there too]), caesars, etc. on a more adult note, im really liking kent. and the quality of unsigned bands playing gigs around gothenburg beats the shit out of the local metal shit from home. wtf americans. learn to play. just cuz you can pay to play a gig doesnt mean you should if i have to pay to see it.

i'm kinda so-so on the new Ark stuff, but I think a lot of that is the language barrier. However, I get to see The Caesars, Millencolin and The Ark this weekend, so I'm totally stoked.

i totally agree about the quality of demo bands here too - sure, there's some stinkers, but the level of quality is consistently higher.

ohhh im really jealous of your weekend. well i guess i could probably go to if i wanted... but i will see millencolin in gothenburg later this month, and this weekend im going to denmark with a hott norwegian to get fucked up. did i mention im like this really responsible person you would want to leave your kids with?

You're in Sweden. I'm jealous; they have the hottest guys in Sweden. *daydreams*...
Jens Ryden is from umeå.

Exactly what I was saying...

okay, swedish beer

you can buy "people's beer" at the grocery store and gas stations and whatever, but it's only 3.5%. Norrlands Guld is an early favorite, but there's also Falcon and Pripps. all lagers, all pretty similar. better than Budweiser, but not my thing really. i rather have ales, but I can't complain since the stuff is so easy drinking.

otherwise, all booze has to be purchased at Systembolaget, the state liquor store. limited hours, but you can at least browse aisles at the one here. some of em just have counters that you order from I guess. again, lots of lagers from northern europe so I'm not too stoked. I bought some odd english ales and a belgian I've never seen simply because I could, but dammit - the shit is kinda expensive.

also note: most bars serve only Carlsberg and one of the local lagers like Pripps Blå or Norrlands. blah. the fancier bars are expensive and rarely seem to have anything of interest.

carlsberg and the locals avi mentioned are basically the standard at bars... they taste fine and unexceptional to me (which is a good thing for such a wussy beer drinker as me). i actually like to drink beer (as opposed to liquor or girly drinks) most of the time when im out, but i have yet to develop many beer enthusiasms. i did discover one cool girly drink here, but that probably wouldnt interest most of this forum. i asked if they had 'cider' at a bar, thinking hard apple cider, you know... and got served a danish girly fruit cider drink called xider. i had the mandarin/chili flavor. it beats the hell out of hard lemonade at least, but i dont need all that sweetness when im trying to get wasted. im sweet enough already.
