J50-BC through Earforce...what a lovely pickup

I've just thrown the BKP out of my old beloved RR1 and put the J50BC back in, since I didn't have a JE1000 I used the EMG ABQ instead...
it's very tight yet juicy and the bark on the open low string is just ridiculous....

Yeah I had one of those from a Model 6, sounded good on DIs when I was tracking it hot, but otherwise the output was just too low so I swapped it for a Duncan Distortion. Still got it lying around in a box somewhere collecting dust.
 
Thats why it came with a je1000 most of the time.
On the model 6 it often came with a mid/high boost from reflex.
Also was it probably a j50b in that charvel.
Let me know if you wanna sell it.
 
It seems that I need to try my J50BC with ABQ :)
Interesting thing about J50BC is that it is not so weak pickup, just remove plastic cover and you can set it closer to strings, output level will rise with every millimeter.
One of problem with old jacksons/charvels is flat pickup rings, so pickups is usually not parallel to strings, so distance is even more important.
Here two DIs recorded with same guitar (same preamp gain was used in both cases):

I think that nobody can blame AHB-1 for low output, in case of J50BC cover was removed, pickup set closer to strings, no boosters was used.
 
I love the PAF sound of them.

Lasse, does your abq have extreme dc offset (when recording DI) and does it have a really nasty clipping sound?

Both of my Je1000 clones do...
 
I once used EMG SPC with J50BC, but found that it limits output in bad way. Also was not very happy with Caparison CMB-3 (somewhat similar to JE1200, but have individual buffers for each pickup), also nasty clipping.

Yes, but so will the muddyness.
And compared to other pickups it's still not high output, it's about the same as an old paf

I set it pretty far from the strings for a clear tone and use a bit of the boost...not all 20db though, more like 6 o so

Might be picking up this beauty MIJ 87' Charvel Model 6 tomorrow for $450 with original hardshell case.
Plays and feels just as nice as my USA soloist, but has that nice poplar sound,

J50bc and JE1200 midboost :D
