Jack Palance, famed for roles in the westerns Shane and Sudden Fear, and an Oscar-winning self-parody in City Slickers, died yesterday aged 87 at home in California. A Pennsylvania miner's son, Palance brought a brooding intensity and powerful physicality to the screen.
He was decorated in world war two and fought as a heavyweight boxing pro under the name Jack Brazzo.
In films he was primarily a villain, and turned to comedy in City Slickers at age 70; at the Oscar ceremony he went down in history when, instead of a speech, he dropped to the stage and did one-arm press-ups.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
