I actually do live in atlanta!
I've been a big fan of Jackyl, since when I first heard of them...
And here's a lil story, on how I first found out about them in 1991:
In the summer of 91, I lived off of Jimmy Carter blvd. in norcross, I had just moved from dekalb county to gwinnett county and I was not working & looking for a job & I had no vehicle @ the time either!
So I was hoofing it. Well, I stopped @ a Morrison's Cafeteria, to get an app. or talk to their manager, and who do ya think of all people was in there & is running his mouth (very loud, I might add!!! lol) on the payphone in there & I run into?
The one & only Jesse James Dupree!!! And ALL of the original lineup of Jackyl @ that time too?!!! WTF right?! Anywho, I walked up to jesse (and I thought he & the rest of the band looked very cool anyway, sporting very long hair & shit!) and asked if he was in a band or something, and jesse proceeded to tell me all about Jackyl & was very surprised & shocked that I'd never ever heard of them & shit!!! I'd honestly never really heard of Jackyl @ all @ that time, so this meeting was very cool for me, Jesse told me they were playing a completely free show that coming weekend @ Avondale Estates theatre (now granted, Jackyl still wasn't officially signed to Geffen records just yet!) and Jesse told me to bring as many peeps as possible to this particular show, and I did! That night they ended up playing THE WHOLE ENTIRE first Jackyl album in it's entirety!
Needless to say, I was blown away how good they were!!! And that night, they ended up getting signed immediately to Geffen records!!! I also used to have their home video, which had the song "I Stand Alone" on it, in which they filmed the entire video in marietta, ga. on a flatbed 18 wheeler truck @ a Kmart store just off of cobb pkway & in the video & (for real too!) Jesse ends up getting arrested for filmimg w/o a permit!!!
True Story!
