It's a long story, but I wasn't going to see James LaBrie tonight until I found out Evergrey were the support band. I was in London anyway, and I thought I would see who was also on the bill before maybe handing over my £15 (that's nearly $30 in your worthless US clown cash). The venue had no clue who else was playing. It was only the guy who had been queueing since 2pm wearing an Evergrey shirt who told me. Evergrey were the support and I bought a ticket there and then.
The first thing I noticed in the crowd was the sheer lack of females. It was like going to a comic book store, only with all the crowd wearing Dream Theater shirts.
Evergrey slayed. They really were that good. They got the crowd going and left them panting for much more. Everygrey rule live.
James LaBrie? Dream Theater's weak link in his own solo band?
Utter crap. No emotion, no feel, no atmosphere. It sounded exactly as it probably was.. 4 studio musicians plodding through songs-by-numbers with James warbling over the top in his "what the fuck are you saying on the high notes" style.
The highlight of the evening was when I was hanging by the merch stand and having four people (individually) coming up to me telling me what a great show I played tonight . They thought I was the singer from Evergrey. It's weird as I'd never even given it a second thought until someone on this very forum said it was so after I posted a pic... It didn't stop me from signing their CDs as "vous êtes un popotin aveugle" in French... hehe.
