have you guys listened to the new labrie album?
I must say i'm impressed. labrie's solo records have always been quality material and this album is no different. what flooered me (literally) concerning the mix is the low end. I think the low end, bass guitar especially, is really tight and huge without being muddy. jens bogren just has it nailed (or was it tony lindgren?).

what do you think?

Just picked it up, and haven't had the chance to listen on monitors yet. But the track "Back on the Ground" definitely brings that low end you're talkin' about. The album has that trademark Bogren drum production (snare in particular), which seems to work in lots of contexts. I like the fact that the songs are a little more individualized, whereas the last album's songs had a lot of the same vibe. Unfortunately, Sfogli's leads are more reserved this time, but the songs are good and that's what matters.

Yeah, i think its pretty good soundwise.. but i'm not a big fan of his solo career to be honest, my cousin tracked the drums for this album and thats pretty much the only reason i've heard about it. :p

What I heard sounds like Soilwork with James LaBrie voice on top... Production is great, musicianship is great but music...

I've only listened to it once but musically it wasn't really exciting. Guitar-wise it was really boring, there are hardly any riffs in there it's almost all open and palm muted chords.
Production is great though.

heard today a couple of tracks, it´s not bad at all but synths in almost every song it´s kinda annoying. I love synths when they are blended well with the tracks, some songs I got the feel that they are there but not doing something interesting at all.

It actually grows on me more and more, it's the kind of songwriting that gently infiltrates your mind and then just possesses you:) Very powerful album. And the arrangements are super-pro, too. Loving it so much better then recent Dream Theater.

Sounds ok so far! Catchy songs and the production is top-notch as expected. But I'm getting tired of that detuned dance-synth. Holding On has a good synth-bell type sound on the 2nd verse. More of that please. (I recognize it's a preset from Roland XV/Fantom IIRC.. :p )

man that album slays. I love it.
"I got you" is my favorite song so far, really catchy and that low end in the chorus!

anybody got a clue about the guitar tuning on that record?

Haven't gone through all of them, but some of the 7 string songs are in drop A, and some of the 6 string songs in drop C, I believe.

Edit: Marco Sfogli has video play throughs. You can see him using a 7 string in drop A on Agony and 6 string in drop C on Letting Go. Haven't really listened to much outside of those.

Drop G played on a 7 string baritone on the majority of the tracks. One is in drop C and I think there might be two that are in standard tuning on a 7 string.

Cheers,
