James Murphy

Yeah man, Vogg was only 19 aswell.... crazy...

Have you heard the earlier recordings of these songs? (from The First Damned?)
The songs are all pplayed like 20bpm faster

Friend of mine has a VERY old Obituary poster... haha, Murphy might be in the early 20's on that one. Need to take a picture :)

I like that this album was the best thing they ever did and they were all still kids
legend

and that is a well murphy-ish solo.

I don't think I'd say this is their best album.......
Nihility is THE tech-death album to end all tech-death albums..... and I actually prefer the faster versions of these songs on The First Damned, except for the solos

006, U mad?

Been on an Organic Hallucinosis binge lately. I swear Decapitated did 'djent' better than any of these modern 'djent' bands without even being a 'djent' band on that album.
The album just sounds like machinery destroying buildings and various other structures, absolutely love the intensity.
Organic Hallucinosis would be the album I would name if someone asked me to sum up the word 'brutal' in one album.

Nothing Decap has ever done has ever sounded even remotely 'djent' to me? I'm quite positive that Vogg just does not use that picking technique, at all.

I never said he uses that picking technique and I'm quite aware he uses a more traditional death metal style of picking, nor did I say the band has done anything 'djent'.
What I mean is, they actually succeeded in making interesting music with all those rhythmic devices and that percussive feel that djent bands use, without the short comings and failures of actual djent bands.
What makes the album so great (as well as most of Meshugggah's work) is that while it's very difficult, it's also just so straight ahead in a way, rather than caking on 13535345345 layers of melodies that djent bands like to do for the sake of it (like All New Materials, a bazillion different layers of guitars and melodies all at once, PLUS vocals on top, just sounds like a fucking unfocused mess)

Come on man..
'Djent' -the word- was conceived specifically to describe a sound, yes. But clearly it's common usage now is referring to a Meshuggah influenced/worshipping style. Fuck.. it pretty much exists to indirectly state that without actually saying it.

Harry H, I totally agree and have always thought OH was a very tasteful application of some Meshuggahn inspiration.

Sorry, I just really don't hear it. Odd time signatures at times, uncommon rhythms/patterns? Why is that automatically a Meshuggah influence, and why is that considered 'djent?' Neither your or Harry's explanation really makes any sense in the context of Decapitated, IMO, and calling them even remotely 'djent' should be considered an insult.
