Investigation Discovery (ID), America's leading crime and justice television network, has announced that musician, actor, producer, and radio and television host Dave Navarro will be the first-ever male honoree at its fourth annual Inspire A Difference honors event this fall in New York City. Co-hosted by Glamour, the event will recognize the remarkable efforts of Navarro and two other celebrities, as well as their charity partners, for their commitment to raising awareness and providing resources and education to victims of crime and social injustices. This past year, the JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist partnered with his best friend, writer-director Todd Newman, to produce "Mourning Son", a personal documentary about the brutal murder of his mother at the hands of an estranged ex-boyfriend. Over the years, Navarro has supported the efforts of numerous domestic violence organizations, in a true effort to come to terms with his mother's senseless murder. "Of course many people know the public persona of Dave Navarro, but Investigation Discovery is truly honored to be able to show viewers this different side," said Henry Schleiff, group president, Investigation Discovery, American Heroes channel and Destination America. "Through his heartbreaking, inspirational journey, Dave perfectly embodies the true essence of why we started Inspire A Difference, and we are thrilled to give him an additional platform to help share his wisdom and healing around the horrific realities of domestic violence." "Losing a loved one to domestic violence is a difficult and unfortunately much-too-common event," said Navarro. "It is my hope that 'Mourning Son' was a way to shine a light on this horrible epidemic within our culture, so that we can all help end it. I appreciate the efforts by Investigation Discovery and Inspire A Difference, and am touched that they would bestow me with this honor." Launched in April 2013, Inspire A Difference is ID's national public affairs campaign designed to inform a dialogue around such topics as violence against women, domestic abuse, bullying, and the suppression of civil rights, while also inspiring viewers to take action and make a difference in the lives of others. Former honorees include Marcia Gay Harden, Rosario Dawson, Angie Harmon and Kristin Chenoweth. JANE'S ADDICTION is about to start its "Sterling Spoon Anniversary Tour" on July 15. It kicks off in Brooklyn as part of the opening of the new Coney Island Amphitheatre. They'll play six cities, including Philadelphia and Boston, before playing Lollapalooza in Chicago on July 30.
