Jason Livermore - Blasting Room Q&A

Question: What is your standard approach to recording and mixing bass - how many tracks / reamps are being blended in the final mix? A lot of the records I hear seem to have the Fender P-bass sound, but the final mix ends up with consistent low end that sits under the kick, some meat above the kick and presence that allows it to be heard in a busy mix (almost as a third guitar), but then completely hollow everywhere else. What are your standard tricks/methods to getting there?

blasting room rules. all i want to know about is drums - what are their preferred mics, comps, tracking techniques? what kind of drum heads and kits deliver the best sound for that style in their opinion?

Man I love the sounds coming out of that studio.

Rise Against - I'd love details on guitar/bass sounds, I think I've read that they're big on using multiple amps?

Comeback Kid - Gang vocals on their stuff are awesome! What mic setup is used? How many tracks?

awesome thanks! always loved their stuff.

edit: just read through the whole thread, great stuff. i was surprised to hear that they favor the atm25 for kick... might have to look into getting one of those. he was very vague about the amp blending stuff lol. oh well i guess you need to keep some secrets if you are the master :)

Encourage you guys to get in to that thread and participate, he's giving some good insight - even if his master buss chain he mixes into is over $15 000 of equipment.
