New York City welcomed Jerry Cantrell and Filter to a sold-out Irving Plaza nestled in Union Square of Manhattan. The venue was filling up very quickly wall to wall from the ground floor to the balcony with eager attendees hungry for blood.

Filter opened their set with the massive “You Walk Away” from their Amalgamut release; they brought an onslaught of energy to a song crafted in their catalogue over 20 years ago and draws new fans to this day.

The last time I saw Filter perform was on the Freaks Of Parade tour in support of their 2023 release, The Algorithm with Rob Zombie, Ministry and Alice Cooper in broad daylight engulfed in smoke on a hot summer day at Budweiser Stage in Toronto.

Fast forward to the onset of 2025, all four members Richard Patrick (Lead Vocals), Jonathan Radtke (Guitar), Bobby Miller (Bass) and Tosh Peterson (Drums) were shrouded in the dark with minimal back lights and tints of purple, the mysterious low-key lighting was fitting to their unique sound that does not need flash and is all substance and power which continued with monstrous epic grooves, “The Drowning” and “Welcome To The Fold”.

The lights shifted to a blend of green and cyberpunk pink hues as they performed the iconic “Take A Picture”, Irving Plaza is a ballroom-style inspired music venue with a disco ball centered on the ceiling reflecting specks of silver light over the audience and complimented Richard Patrick’s signature voice which is stunning and flawless.

While this current run does not include many Canadian dates, Filter are scheduled to tour Canada extensively in the spring with Bush & Rival Sons!

Jerry Cantrell was joined by forces Greg Puciato on vocals (Better Lovers, Dillinger Escape Plan, Killer Be Killed & The Black Queen), Roy Mayorga on drums (Stone Sour, Soulfly & Ministry), Eliot Lorango on bass and Zach Throne on guitar and vocals. Both Eliot Lorango and Zach Throne have an extensive background as musicians for Corey Taylor and many other artists.

The set was curated with a balance of Jerry Cantrell’s solo work from his 2024 album I Want Blood such as “Afterglow”, “Vilified” and “I Want Blood” to Alice In Chains classics.

To the delight of diehard fans, they performed “Man In The Box” and “Would?” where New York leapt and sang along to every word which honed on the nostalgia of yesterday and for a moment in time made me forget it was the year 2025. Most notably was “Hate To Feel” that is making historical headlines on this tour with its first drop since 1993 on their stop in Niagara Falls.

In the words of Jerry Cantrell, “Getchya some blood!” as the I Want Blood tour which began in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada (the only Canadian date) continues throughout the US with Filter.
