A brand new interview with LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page aired earlier today (Monday, October 8) on "CBS This Morning". You can now watch the full segment below. The interview, which was conducted by CBS News foreign correspondent Charlie D'Agata, was recorded on September 24 at the National Portrait Gallery in London, where LED ZEPPELIN held an event to promote the band's upcoming official photo book. Asked whether there was a moment when the members of LED ZEPPELIN first got together that he thought, "Wow!", Jimmy responded: "The very first rehearsal that we did was here in London in a rehearsal room where we had maybe an hour or two hours. We counted 'one, two, three, four' and we were in and we were all playing, and we just kept extending the song and jamming on it, and by the end of it, I absolutely guarantee that it was a life-changing experience for everybody from that point — everyone knew that they'd never played with musical equals [before]." Explaining that it was important for LED ZEPPELIN to get a few shows under its belt before recording its debut album, Jimmy said: "The first gig was in Scandinavia [at Gladsaxe Teen Club in Denmark on September 7, 1968] because I was very keen to be able to have the group playing in front of an audience before we went in the studio." Reflecting on his early vision for the band, Page added: "I knew that the way to do it was to have four musicians that were just really locked in tight and everyone could be heard on the records, and it wasn't just about one person but the overall." Due on October 9, "Led Zeppelin By Led Zeppelin" is the first and only official illustrated book by the band. It is a unique collaboration between Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, who have given Reel Art Press unrestricted access to the LED ZEPPELIN archive. Commemorating 50 years since their formation, this 400-page chronology spans half a century of the band's unparalleled career. It comprises hundreds of carefully curated images and artworks personally selected by the band, from the iconic to the unseen.
