Joe Perry recently spoke with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation. During the conversation, he opens up about Steven Tyler and the possibility of a final Aerosmith show. He also reveals if there could be more Joe Perry Project shows and what the status of Hollywood Vampires is.

Joe Perry on Steven Tyler and possibility of a final Aerosmith show:
Joe Perry: “We talk probably a couple of times a week, and, you know, we played together up at a charity up in San Francisco. And Chris Robinson was on the bill too, and it was wild seeing the two of them. And you know, like trading licks, you know, and so I don’t know, man, you know, but we’re talking about it. I mean, except for like, anything on the calendar, we’re all alive and well, so, you know, we’ll just have to see, you know? I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one, but I don’t know, man. We’ll just have to see. You know, I’ve always played like every show’s the last one, I hate to sound like it’s a downer, but, you know, I give it up every night, you know? And I don’t know, you know, it was certainly, the first gig we did for that tour, that got canceled, we certainly felt like it was gonna be another one, but, you know shit happens.”
Eddie Trunk: “Does Steven seem well enough, Joe? Steven’s been out there playing a little bit. I saw him do some songs at Janie’s Fund. You did that thing with him. I mean, does he feel like he’s in a place where he could do a set right now? Do you think he’s well enough that he could at least be able to a hypothetical, like one final show? Do you think, is he up for that? Would he like to do that?”
Perry: “You know, I think he would. I think it’s just a matter of getting there, you know? I mean, it’s like, you know, I mean, we’re up there, man. And it’s a lot, you know. It was interesting, you know, with COVID and everybody being, you know, being home for that length of time, it was like,
‘Oh, so this is how other people live.’ You know, actually sleeping in your own bed every night, you know? And, you know, hopefully not feeling shitty from COVID, you know, or in the beginning, you know, it was pretty bad. But you know, I mean, it really, really opens your eyes to like, you know, I mean, I don’t think I’ve gone a year without something on the calendar and having to be somewhere. So that’s kind of the, that’s the bigger picture, you know? I don’t know. I’ve got enough left in me. I still wanna do it, you know, but right now for this, for this project, I’m gonna be, you know, I’m gonna be taking it out and giving it up and, you know, I’m just glad I got these guys, you know, to open up enough time to come along. So, we’ll see what happens, you know?”
Joe Perry on the status of Hollywood Vampires:
“We’re working on a documentary, you know, it’s got some, some great, great stuff on it. I just saw a, you know, some, like a rough cut and it’s pretty amazing. You know, I mean, it’s still pinching myself this band actually, you know, it got moving, you know, and because everybody’s got, you know, other things going on. And especially Johnny, you know, it’s not like, ‘I can’t do it this day.’ It’s like, ‘I can’t do it this month.’ You know, when he’s on a project, he’s going to, you know, carve out months, you know? And even then, he has to be available for things. So, you know, when I’m in LA I’m close. I’ve seen him work and it’s like, that’s tough. I mean, talk about putting a band on the road and then doing a movie and the kind of movies he does. It’s a lot, you know, it’s a real lot. It takes a lot outta you. And you’ve gotta give up your life 24/7 for anywhere from, you know, a month to a year, whatever, you know? So anyway and Alice is always working, you know, if we don’t book something almost a year ahead, he’s gonna be booked, you know? And I know that everybody would love to play some more, you know, with that band. And, you know, I think the last record we did was amazing, was so much fun. But, you know, we get into that in the documentary, you know, so, I don’t know. Right now everybody’s tied up, but I know that in the back of everyone’s mind, it’s like, you know, it’d be great to get back together again.”
Joe Perry on more shows with The Joe Perry Project:
“Yeah, I mean we always talk about that, you know, and it all sounds good on paper, but one of the reasons why I like to do this kind of, you know, like a short run just to see if everybody, how it clicks, you know what I mean? It’s like, I know everybody, we’ve all played together at different times, but you know, it feels like it should be amazing. And you know, every time that I’ve done this, I’ve really had a great time, you know, and you know, everybody that showed up, you know, all the fans, everybody seems to have a good time. So, you know, I gotta think this is gonna follow suit. So, you know, who knows, man, you know, there’s always that one Aerosmith show that we’re all thinking might happen and, you know, we’re talking about it, but, I’m not gonna keep the calendar empty just for that, you know? You never know.”
