johan santana

Mets need all the help they can get. I think he is over hyped though--the best pitcher in baseball? Not quite, that would be Josh Beckett

i got no beef against the red sox. i'm not concerned who is labeled the best pitcher or not. wherever you wanna rank him santana is a really good pitcher. he is young, has proven himself, and will surely wipe out some very very nasty memories from last year which still plague me.

Hmm, I can only hope - it seems like the Mets have a bad habit of getting one or two really good players and hoping that it'll solve their problems, which it usually doesn't

i smell yankee fan lol

however i agree but the last time they got a player of santanas caliber was piazza.

you can argue robbie alomar but even though he underachieved BIG his anticipation and his "aura" even before his mets debut was not a "francise player" he was just a really really really good player. santana is a franchise player in his prime. RIGHT SMACK in the middle of his prime.

mets got piazza in his prime but in the second half of his prime.

santana on the other hand has (god willing with good health) 6 years of prime pitching before he starts his decline.

they got pedro past his prime. beltran they got at great time career wise but once again, he is NOT a franchise player. the only franchise player the mets got in his prime since the 80's crew was piazza. so the moral of the story is that this is on paper a really really really really big deal. he is now the best picher in the NL on PAPER... the only one close is jake peavey.
