more original than a lot of bands, i suppose, but he doesn't exactly blow me away.

I think his single is funny when he raises his voice a lot. I'm with saturnix when I think it wasn't bad, but didn't impress me either. Also, if you are looking for a new singer-songwriter type, I'd suggest Jack Johnson over Mayer. (You can smell a Nick Drake influence there.)
