I know it's not exactly new, but do you have any access to copies of this CD? It's bizarrely hard to find.

Weird. Good album (I've heard it but never owned it) from a well-known guitarist, you'd think he would've secured decent distribution (I dunno, maybe the Laser's Edge...)

This is going back some years and I'm about to turn 51 so please excuse my memory. If I recall John put this out himself. I remember talking to Jordan about the release. I got the impression that John didn't want to wholesale it out so I never followed through by contacting him. I'm pretty certain it was reissued by Favored Nations at one point but is also out of print. I see it sells for beefy amounts of cash on Amazon.

JP's solo album wasn't released by Favored Nations. Only the JP and JR Evening with...

Suspended Animation is only available through Petrucci's website

I stand corrected. For whatever reason I guess he didn't want to wholesale it and I never explored it.

Yeah, I never understood why either but I guess it came down to the money issue. The first press though, had the song Curve split into track IDs btw so if anybody wants that album, make sure you check for this

I heard JP's solo effort when it first came out. A friend of mine bought it. It's a pretty good disc but his best work is in Dream Theater, without a doubt. Except for the "Steve Morse" inspired "Glasgow Kiss", the rest of the album is decent but not great, IMO.
There are some nice solos and melodies, within some of the songs, but I would never buy this album, myself.

I literally just got this a week ago. I got an Amazon gift card for my birthday and the price isn't THAT outrageous ($16.98 on Marketplace, straight from JP's label), so I figured what the hell. If you're a Petrucci fan or you like Satriani-style instrumental albums, it's probably worth it. On first listen, I was a bit underwhelmed by the songwriting, but it's a guitar album so my expectations were probably misplaced.

Count me among those who can't understand why JP never released it on a real label. It's 2010 and guys like Satriani and Vai are still on majors...you'd think that a guy with the reputation of Petrucci could probably get a deal with somebody decent. Knowing his relationship with Vai, you'd think that a Favored Nations release would be a no-brainer if he couldn't do any better, but as it is, I wonder what percentage of Petrucci fans even knows Suspended Animation exists.
