Jon Oliva's Pain - Global Warning

Rather disappointed in this one myself. Maniacal Renderings was awesome but this feels more like just watered-down Savatage. First four tracks are good but then it goes downhill. My one highlight from that point on is actually the widely loathed "Master", at least he isn't playing safe there!

Firstly SAVATAGE is my favourite band. So when I talk about any past member / member I can only say: Thanks!! :worship:

In the beginning I was a little disappointed with "Global warning". I love "Maniacal renderings" and new album is quite different, more symphonic.

However the more I listen the more I like it. "Firefly" is a classic power ballad masterpiece made in Oliva. "Look at the world", "Stories" and "Adding to cost" are overwhelming. Overall isn´t as amazing as "Maniacal renderings" but it´s a very, very good record.

By the way, yesterday I saw Jon Oliva´s Pain. They played in Vitoria 350 km from where I live. I worked, drove, saw the gig and came back home at 4:30a.m. But it was great.

Jon is too fat (I hope he doesn´t suffer a heart attack or anything. He fu**ed his right leg in the previous days and he had to use a stick.

Show was amazing. 9 SAVATAGE songs, 6 from JOP (4 from the new + 2 from "Maniacal"). 95 minutes, a little short. Not "When the crowds are gone"

yeah, hate to say it but he's not looking healthy. Compare to the video for When the Crowds are Gone or Gutter Ballet and you wouldnt even know it was the same guy. 20 years ago man... 20 years ! I still have a fix that can only be cured by a full dose of Gutter Ballet.

He did get larger after the death of Criss right? Maybe that's how he's coping with that loss. Some people have done the same with drugs or drinking or other compulsive behaviors....

I love it but album of the year?! It's in my top 20 so far...

First of all, you have WAY MORE access to new albums than I do. Secondly, I'm so addicted to concert DVDs that I'm way behind on new music as compared to recent years. :ill:

For me, the new JOP gets the most listens so far, keeping in mind the only new acquisitions this year have been Ayreon, Whitesnake, Nazareth, Black Tide, Airbourne, and Pharaoh. Also, trace my history, I'm Oliva biased. I love everything the man does and probably always will.

Me too. And I´d add everything Zak, Chris Caffery, Paul O´Neill, Bob Kinkel,... with a couple of exceptions: JOP "Tahe mahal" and "Caffery "Pins and needles". I don´t like too much any of them.

isn't zak's band called cicle II circle??
