According to the Albany Democrat-Herald, JOURNEY drummer Deen Castronovo gave a $10,000 check to a high school in Albany, Oregon on Wednesday (April 15) to help replace band equipment lost in a fire. The destroyed building stored the school's sound equipment, band and choir instruments and more than 40 years worth of collected sheet music. The damage was estimated at well above $1 million. Castronovo, who grew up in Salem, Oregon, and was a high school band member himself, said: "JOURNEY has given me a great platform to be able to help people and to give. I've been very fortunate. The least I can do is to give back."He added: "We're so grateful, [my wife] Deidra and I are so grateful, to be able to give back to you guys, because I know it must be devastating. I know you lost a lot of equipment and there's a lot of stuff that's gone now."Check out video footage from KOIN.com, The Oregonian and KPTV.com below.Other community members have stepped up to offer donating used instruments to the band members.A 28-year-old Albany man, Zachary Burghart, was arrested and charged with arson in connection with the fire.
