Legendary drummer Steve Smith is bringing an extraordinary collection of new artwork, "The Vegas Residency Collection", to Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Navada in October to coincide with JOURNEY's performance residency. Featured at the acclaimed Carnevale Gallery in Caesars Palace, Smith will be on hand to discuss the work in three live, in-person appearances: Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. Smith previously stated about his art collection: "I feel that this art is a view into the inner workings of the motions I use to make rhythms. With drumming, we hear only part of the motions that we make, and because the sticks and hands are generally traveling so fast, we don't see all the motions being used. We hear the impact of the stick on a drumhead or cymbal, but we don't hear the motions made in the spaces between the notes. The spaces in between the notes are as important as the notes that we hear. With the process that we used to make this art, you see both the impacts and the spaces between the notes. It's as if we are looking into the very fabric of the rhythms." Smith grew up in the Boston area and started playing drums at the age of 9 in 1963. He studied music at the Berklee College of Music from 1972 to 1976 with Alan Dawson and Gary Chaffee as his private instructors. Over the past 40 years, he has toured and recorded with some of the biggest names in jazz and rock — appearing on recordings that have sold over 100 million copies worldwide — including JOURNEY, Bryan Adams, Mariah Carey, Zucchero and Jean-Luc Ponty. "Rhythm On Canvas" is a new medium in art — a movement led by the world's greatest drummers, started at SceneFour, a visual art team based in downtown Los Angeles. Through their signature collaborative art approach, they work with notable visionaries outside of the fine art world to collectively create original art projects. At the conclusion of the creation process with featured collaborative guest, an original art collection is born and released worldwide.
