I kind of imagined that because they hadn't played Wacken yet, they probably never would do.
They almost had them this year but couldn't pull it off due to touring conflicts (in fact the promoters indicated that if Wacken was held in May or June instead of August, that Maiden would have played this year).
Anyway, this is very interesting news. That said, is it a bigger deal because it's Wacken? Not to sound lazy, but Maiden are going to tour everywhere on that mammoth Early Days pt 2 tour, and so I could just go see them within an hour of where I live!?!
Ugh, that would have been terrible. Imagine, Maiden's first appearance at Wacken and their entire setlist ends up being just a rehash of Matter of Life and Death snoozefest.
I can't wait for: "Here's a story about what not to do if a bird shits on your head".
Honestly, seeing them there, I just couldn't imagine it being much better.
Tell me more....so Maiden at Wacken >> Maiden at any other fest? Is it because these bands are like institutions in Germany -- kinda like Slayer at Wacken was crazier than them playing anywhere else?
JayKeeley said:Also, aren't Iced Earth headining this year? Funny that this year IE headline, and next year it's Maiden.....and the big difference between them is about 95 million in album sales.
By the way, imagine them starting this show with "Moonchild".
*ejaculates*
Conceivably, Wacken could sell out before any other band is announced.
I'm kind of with JK on this. There will be plenty of chances to see Maiden on their upcoming tour, 30 minutes from home, in the comfort of a floor seat and not a sea of 60,000 people. Plus, it seems that festival sets are generally shorter, not longer. I'd be surprised if a band as big as Maiden made any special set changes for Wacken. Lastly, if Maiden does sell the fest out, you'd have to have concerns about the remainder of the line-up. A sell-out prior to the announcement of the second band, would certainly lessen the promoter's motivation to put together a quality card.
