Just got my RME Babyface today

Hmm. It's USB2.0. But it's also RME, who do really good drivers. Hmm. I'd be curious if it could actually do the full 22-channels at once.

I also suspect RME will be the first to the USB3.0 line, so I might wait for that.

I saw a GS thread where they tested the new fireface UX using USB 2.0 vs. firewire and the USB actually had SLIGHTLY lower latencies. pretty strange o_0

Also USB is much friendlier with things like hot swapping, my Profire will often lose sync and I can't get it back without a restart (all latest drivers.)

Jeff, is it bad ? Peter from Synthax was very quick answering my questions regarding my broken Fireface. The german RME however was pure crap. I posted a question on their forums and that gay dude answered something like "What do you want us to do?".

Yeah, they failed to diagnose my unit properly and ended up replacing the firewire ports (which didn't fix the issue - a fucking zip tie to hold the psu cable down fixed it), and the new ones have broken off regularly. I've re-soldered them on myself 4-5 times at this point, but for some reason they're not seated well. I have to get the ports from them every time, and last time it took 4 months + an e-mail to RME germany to get Synthax USA to ship me the parts (they shipped me some wrong parts, as well).

Now that I have a spare interface I want to send it back into them and have the firewire ports soldered on properly, by them, and seat them with hot glue so I will never have to deal with the issue again, but I hate dealing with the company so much that I don't want to have anything to do with Synthax if I can help it.

I was planning to mix the live shows of Cynic and Devin Townsend through my computer during the US tour last year using my FF800 and my two Octamics. Worked fine in Australia for Cynic for one show but then the Fireface was damaged during a flight. I sent several emails to RME trying to get some help from them, and basically they couldn't care less. Too bad from them, I had a lot of people coming to me after the show with the computer to ask me what all this was about, I'm sure this would have been a good promotion for them.

I really won't be able to freak out too much about how much better it sounds because my monitoring environment is so inherently terrible to begin with. But i am definitely super stoked to be able to run out and mix in my car and NOT have to use the laptop built-in sound card which sounds unusably terrible. Cause when you have Adam A3's in your mix tiny cubic mode-filled mix room and no subs, ya really can't know for sure what's going on in the loud bass range without a trip to the ol' vehicle.

I've never even thought about that. So many times I've wanted to go mix in my car but was too lazy to run a power extension out there. That's the great advantage to a mobile setup i suppose:goggly:

How is the jog wheel? I was put off by some of the complaints saying it grated against the case and seemed flimsy.
