Just replaced my HZ3 with a 81, f-year! Comparison clip inside

Thought some of you would find this interesting

Sooo I finally decided to change out my HZ as I was getting tired of it. I wanted a more clear sound.

Got a nice price for the 81 at work!

I also changed the strings and decided to record some riffs with the HZ first, then do the same riffs with the 81.

Here is the result, the 81 is first, and plays a bar, then the HZ playz a bar etc. Clean part at the end is the pure DI and each pickup plays their own segment.



Exact same settings on everything.

Guitar: Jackson Stars RR-J2SP (Alder body, FR)
Strings: D'Addario 11-49 (completely fresh)
Ampsim on distortion clips: Legion

Cool. 81 is definitely more clear and suited for the job than the HZ , but to be perfectly honest I think pretty much every pickup is > the HZ at pretty much everything

the emg hz sorta combines the negative aspects of regular emgs and regular passive pickups imho....dunno why though.
it retains that somewhat congested emg sound unlike other passive pickups while lacking the typical tightness and definition of active emgs.

Nice stuff! The HZ is pretty much crap for everything, crap cleans and crap distorted sounds really.
I remember a few years ago, Ibanez had some "EMG Design" pickups in some of their RG range of guitars, even worse sounding than the HZs haha
