How do you think about keyboardist in metal music?
To example:
-John Lord(Deep Purple)
-Don Airey(Deep Purple)
-Leena „Awa“ Peisa(Lordi)
-Christian „Flake“ Lorenz(Rammstein)
-Janne Viljami „Warman“ Wirmam(Children of Bodom)

Honestly, I don't usually like the way keyboards are added to Metal music. A few good examples imo:

Nazxul - Iconoclast
Grand Belial's Key albums
Dimmu Borgir - Spiritual Black Dimensions, PEM.

Really hate keyboards as played by CoB's Warman.

Iconoclast is a terrible album. Totem is the album that makes Nazxul worth knowing about. It's a shame, actually. I had really high hopes for it, but it's just generic keyboard-laden black metal. They also fucked up by leaving out the classic Nazxul vocal style and using stupid vocal effects.

Keyboards can be good or bad in metal music.

Yeah, I guess that I don't like generic modern keyboard-heavy black metal with bad vocals. You're right. Thanks for helping me to understand that.

^ His Keyboards sound damn happy, always. And keep flooding their music, it's like too fucking much happening at the same time. It doesn't help building an interesting atmosphere.

Other finnish bands which use keyboards in a better way are Moonsorrow and Ensiferum. At least better to my taste.

I like keyboards if they're done well. A little ambience with a nice background patch works wonders for atmospheric music.

I prefer organic instruments to fake keyboard violins etc (ex: Pensees Nocturnes, Equilibrium) but realize not everyone has the budget for that.

Keytars, like Sonata Arctica keytar solos, are always great.

The absolute worst are instrumental filler tracks on black metal albums and the praise they receive from retards with chopped off ears.

Per Wiberg makes everything cool!
