these were recorded without a bottom mic.

it's an sm57 and a km184 on top....the 184 dominates the mix.

chain: API preamp (driven HOT)-->Apogee AD16-X
the softlimiter of the Apogee taking off a dB or two of the km184 track.
int PT bussed to MH Channelstrip...some EQ and comp (like 10dB) (this is where the "snap" comes from)--->Maxim Limiter shoving off another 2 dB-->Alan Smart C2 on "crush" mode taking another 4-5dB-->Apogee's softlimiter for the final 1dB hardware limiting.

yep, shitload of compression, but I really liked how it turned out...I guess so will you.

Reverb on the "wet" is just D-Verb

(and I did something to the very tail to have this "ring"...)

This snare is killer man! That KM184 really rocks on snares eh? The sample you posted before with the 184 micing the side of the shell was fantastic as well... I'm gonna have to experiment with some SDCs on snares next time I get a chance, I've never been satisfied with a dynamic on the top, I always end up using way more of the bottom mic which is an SDC coincidentally in most cases...

Thanks! I'm using the samples you posted a while back (the ones you just called BP2 i think) blended in my bands demo...gives an awesome crack to the sound and really cuts through
