Alright, just for the record.

This friend of mine who's -actually- a guitar player... just... not that prominent a one, obviously... assumes Hammett not only can hang with Loomis... but is actually... better.

Seriously... start with the jokes, cuz, Im gonna have him read this shit later on just so he gets an idea about technical prowess.

So, bring in alllll the names of tech gurus just so I can have him see the light and study the IA's, Thal's, Murphy's, Jarzombek's, Gilbert's, etc etc even down to the Beach's and DeMartini's...

Commence. Hilarity to ensue, etc etc.

Better? in what respect? that he wrote solo's that 99% of the geetar playing metal heads wanted to learn? that he can out-shred someone else? Come on guys, Hammet made me wanna play solo's (along with Randy Rhoads etc) and a lot of my technique was learned from his licks. If your saying that Loomis is FASTER or more technically adept...maybe, but who cares, give both guys a "fuck yeah!" Before this even gets started, let's not turn this into another forum pissing contest, while the respected players play their hearts out and we bitch like aul women.

Yeah, technically... I even said, technical gurus in the post... soooo, that's the point... going further than the standard pentatonic... but... thanks?

J

Just browsing through the forums... Often read but have never post in here.

But for the sake of your argument...

Technically speaking, Loomis dances circles around Hammett. As do many, many others.

Dude.. Unleash the fyoooory! That shit rocks.

Well Of Course... I paid $55 (Canadian Dollars) when I pre-ordered the import before it was released here. I probably coulda waited a week and got it cheaper off eBay but I wanted it as soon as possible.

...and for yur buddy, Yngwie schools Hammett aswell:lol:

yeah, but yngwie isn't anywhere near as creative as loomis is as far as sweeping, i get bored of yngwie very quickly, and i cant stand him live lol, whats with the constant kick towards the crowd, everytime 5th time he hits a chord?!?

hahahaha... He makes me laugh when I see him live.

I know Yngwie isn't for everyone... and there are plenty of better sweepers...
But I love Metal and I love Classical music, so its the best of both worlds for me.

and of all the neo classical shredders I am familiar with I find Yngwie to be the most genuine...

all of which is just my opinion.

Better? Eh...it's all relative. Kirk acheived a level of technical playing ability that he wanted way back when. He was into bluesy players like Hendrix, and mixed it in with a little flash from guys like Schenker. Only upon the release of "Ride the Lightning" was he getting into anything more "technical" like sweep picking because he was in this "Malmsteen" phase. So, Kirk learned to play in a style he enjoyed. Jeff has long been quoted as listing guys like Malmsteen from the start, and always geared himself towards shredding. So, to me it's comparing apples and oranges. If you want to say who has more technical ability, I'd ask who wanted more technical ability and put in hours for it from the start?

Loomis is my favorite guitarist today, but I can sing virtually every note to Hammett's solos and he's inspired countless rock and metal guitar players you hear today. Guitar playing isn't some pissing contest and who can wank off on the fretboard the fastest..to me, at least, IMO.

i just find myself getting retarded reading threads like this. Keep it on HC for christ sakes, i couldn't give a fuck if you think Coco the fucking clown is better than kirk hammett to be honest, so why post it? i think you need the HC or Guitargeek forum for this uninspired bs

Loomis can outshred Hammett anyday. But when guys my age got into metal, there was no Loomis. He was getting turned down for the Megadeth job back then. Hammett was the "lead guitar" guy. Yes, there was Yngwie, vie, wee, how ever you spell it, (Never got into him, that was before the "Will & Grace" period that made acting gay cool. But Yngwie wasn't metal either.

Its Sunday! best "ot" day of the week!

ya it's such a coincidence because I was just having this discussion with my guitar player yesterday. we were trying to listen to the Re-load album all the way through for a good nostalgic belly laugh. Every fucking solo on that album personally offends me and gets me pissed! I'm not gonna sit here and say he isn't a good player, but creatively, and technically speaking, Loomis will unquestionably tear Kirk apart. Hammet does have a lot of soul and a lot of flavor, both of which expired in the early 90's.. whatever thats just my dual penny.

Somebody should steal Kirk's wah pedal and pee in his face for using that thing on almost every solo!

it's like hes saying: WOWWW!!!! WOWW!!!!! YAYY!!! WOWW!!! WOOOOAAAAHH!!!!!!!!i know how to play E-tonic®

Hammett... The dude was on top of world with puppets - actually had some cool leads on that disc.

and now, today, with st anger and NO leads.

your buddy, the guitar player, who thinks hammet smokes loomis - needs to sell his guitar and take up speed metal kazoo.

Basically, that's the idea... Im just trying to tell the guy to broaden his horizon and stop listening to the same 3 fucking guys and get some ideas from the more versatile and creative sorts out there. Figure if I show him a thread full of people chiming in with other names out there, maybe he'd have to see the light and play something besides a hammer-tap wankfest run and try something... oh, I dunno... tremelo picked?
