Right then, let's just pretend that these numbers mean something and may be taken into account for deciding on bands. :tickled:

Firstly, putting HCI and HCII into perspective:

Moonsorrow 1.2M
Thyrfing 705K
Novembers Doom 549K
Primordial 325K
The Chasm 50K

Bal Sagoth 705K
Manegarm 443K

This is what a black metal band will get you these days:

Emperor 1.9M
Satyricon 2.0M
Enslaved 1.1M

Bands that will never play HC ever:

Bathory 2.0M
DsO 454K
Falkenbach 803K
Summoning 1.3M
Drudkh 628K

Bands that have been previously discussed:

Agalloch 1.9M
Borknagar 1.0M
Horna 219K
Ancient Rites 240K

Bands that kick ass which nobody will show up for:

Morrigan 79K
Darkestrah 34K

Bands that will gather a crowd:

Ensiferum 4.6M
Korpiklaani 2.9M

OK so since neither HCI or HCII brought in the crowds to help the promoters break even, even with Moonsorrow at 1.2M, they may need to seriously consider the following 4 artists for HCIII headliner material:

FRIDAY:
Korpiklaani 2.9M
Borknagar 1.0M

SATURDAY:
Agalloch 1.9M
Enslaved 1.1M

The numbers don't lie.

what the fuck is "last.fm"?

audioscrobbler evolved into an advertising machine.

Basically it records when you start a song and listen to it all the way through (otherwise it doesn't count). Then it records artist name, album name and track name (I think).

Theres some other shit that I never look at.

You only have to listen to half the song now! I actually quite like the site for events and discussion. I found some good bands being discussed in some of the groups.

I used to listen to the RC group radio when I was at friends houses and the music they had to choose from was shit. Except Henrik spiked it with shit.

None of those bands are in my Top 50, so that's hardly a line-up that excites me.

Zod

I must admit, that comparison bothers me somewhat.

When I saw the PaganFest tour poster for Europe and noticed Ensiferum headlining over Moonsorrow, even I was surprised. But again, these last.fm numbers would seem to suggest that makes sense.

I really like the idea of a Black Metal headliner. Though, enslaved has just toured. I'd lean Toward Emperor.

yeah, I just put those in there as a comparison. I don't think Satyricon or Emperor would be affordable. I think Borknagar and Enslaved, however, might be more realistic and musically appropriate.

Why are you listing the "play" totals as opposed to the "listener" totals? It's totally misleading to say 1.9m when their actual last.fm fan base is only 52k. 52,000 spread over a globe of 6 billion? Yep, still not going to draw any money. Last August, in their hometown no less, they drew no more than 150 people for their cd release party.

Look man, you messing with my rocket science! :loco:

JK, could you add Amon Amarth's last.fm numbers? Then Zod would have a band that excites him and also a band that would help draw in locals. They did pretty well for attendance in HC land this past weekend.

I can see Ensiferum having higher numbers. I know some power metal people that like them but not much else in that is considered to be in pagan/viking/folk/etc... genre.

All of the bands would expensive. Enslaved was not that cheap on their last tour. If Enslaved or Emperor would come over, I could see them try to do a full or mini tour around the festival date. Possibly the same with Satyricon also. Would one (or two) of the headliner(s) doing other tour dates hurt the fest? That said, I think that any (or a combination) of those four would help local attendance.
