LAST IN LINE bassist Phil Soussan has weighed in on the environmental Green New Deal, saying that "global temperature fluctuations are caused primarily by solar activity." The landmark proposal by Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seeks to address climate change and income inequality, but has often been subject of mocking by Republicans, who believe it to be illogical. Ocasio-Cortez defended the Green New Deal on Wednesday, a day after the measure failed to secure a vote in the Senate. "3,000 Americans died in Hurricane María. The Midwest is drowning as we speak. 100s of Flint families were pumped w/ poisoned water & our water infrastructure is imperiled across the country," the freshman New York Democrat wrote on Twitter. "GOP thinks this is a joke. They choose to laugh+delay. We choose to lead." Soussan, who frequently tweets in support of President Trump's policies, responded to Ocasio-Cortez, writing: "Hey pipe down. Global temperature fluctuations are caused primarily by solar activity. Do some non governmental funded research. Then you can suggest a way for us to use tax dollars to control the sun." Another Twitter user mocked Soussan for his comments, saying: "My science classes extend beyond 10th grade. If yours did, you'd know that too. Increasing heat reduces the capacity of plants to be productive through heat stress, increases the occurance of droughts, makes extreme weather more frequent, increased weed and pest pressure, & more." To that, the 57-year-old British-born bassist responded: "I have a degree in Physics and a second in Organic Chemistry." He added: "NASA photos show a recent increase in green by 20%. CO2 levels are historically low. Much more about water vapor, solar activity and Xray flare/ UV emissions, zero temp change in 19 yrs." Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell put the measure up for a vote on Tuesday to force Democrats to make a public stand on the measure that he and other Republicans have ripped as a "socialist makeover of the entire U.S. economy." Over the weekend, Soussan slammed Wolf Blitzer of CNN after attorney general William Barr released a summary of special counsel Robert Mueller's report that noted the "investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election." "Embarrassed? Lost all credibility? Wasted hours of our time?" Soussan wrote. "#NoRussianCollusion well done @CNN @wolfblitzer You idiots." LAST IN LINE's sophomore album, "II", was released on February 22 via Frontiers Music Srl.
