It sent shockwaves through the metal community when it was announced that Candlemass would be performing a single show at the inaugural Rock Hard Festival Greece on September 13, 2025 featuring former vocalist, Messiah Marcolin, behind the microphone. It will be the first time in more than 20 years that this line-p of the band has performed together.
Since then the internet has been rife with rumours and request for more concert dates and possibly recordings featuring that particular lineup of the band. Today bassist Leif Edling addresses those rumours in a video statement.
As part of the ongoing 40th anniversary celebration of Candlemass, there will only be ONE show performed together with Messiah Marcolin. No more dates, no tour, no recordings – just one single show to celebrate that part of the band’s history. So if seeing Messiah Marcolin perform with the band again (or for one final time) is on YOUR personal bucket list, then this is most likely the only chance you will get.
Furthermore, Sascha Paeth, guitar player of Heavens Gate (as well as Avantasia and Masters Of Ceremony), has also made a video shout-out for the unique performance of the legendary German power metal band with original members at the Rock Hard Festival Greece, performing on the same day as Candlemass, marking two world exclusive live performances in one day! Who would want to
miss such an event?
Tickets for the festival are still available here – so far they have received ticket orders from more than 30 different countries.
The entire team behind the Rock Hard Festival Greece is very much looking forward to bringing this epic event to you!

Candlemass recently unveiled the title track of their upcoming EP, Black Star, out May 9 via Napalm Records. The EP impressively marks the 40th anniversary of the legendary band.
“Black Star” seamlessly merges haunting melodies with deeply introspective lyrics, brought to life by the inimitable voice of Johan Längqvist. Written by genre-defying mastermind Leif Edling, it delves into themes of existential struggle, temptation, and the allure of darkness – an intense atmosphere imbued with Candlemass’ signature sound. The single arrives with a dark, atmospheric music video.
Candlemass comments: “‘Black Star‘ is the big heavy track. Contains a bit of everything, melodic verse, monolithic riff, up-tempo Sabbathy mid part, grand ending a ‘la Rainbow!.”
Watch the “Black Star” video below:
Candlemass honour their 40th anniversary of pioneering the genre with a four-track EP, Black Star. Packed with canyon-deep riffs, the genre-defying band unveils two brand-new songs alongside two cover versions of timeless classics.
Following the title track, the second original song, “Corridors Of Chaos”, marks a true old school instrumental containing both classic metal riffing and stunning guitar playing by Lars Johansson, showcasing the band’s mastery of dynamics. Adding to this tribute, Candlemass delivers a cover of Black Sabbath’s iconic “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”, taking listeners back to 1973. This is followed by their rendition of Pentagram’s classic “Forever My Queen”, further cementing Candlemss’ remarkable contribution to shaping the genre into what it is today.
