He passed away several hours ago at age 94. Although he obviously wasn't a metal musician, his influence on what would become metal music and studio recording cannot be ignored. Not only was he the inventor of the hollow body guitar (though not the electric guitar as is mistakenly thought), the hollow body electric made rock music possible.

He was also incredibly influential in recording. He invented a form of multitrack recording, not to mention a number of effects including tape looping, phasing, and overdubbing.

So basically he was an indirect influence on every record you've ever heard from the last 60+ years!

May he rest in peace. :kickass:

Unbelievable, 94 yo. I thought he already passed away years ago. His contribution to music will be unboubtedly forever remembered. As long as a Gibson Les Paul sounds his name will be inscribed in the notes. May he rest in peace.

RIP.
No man has had or probably will never have such a direct effect or correlation with the guitar, music and production developed and delivered from.

From one legend to another...it is only fitting, I had to post this clip. Especially from 0-1:25...it truly shows sincerity and the impact the man (or both men) have had on music.

Same thing as far as I know. Wikipedia says "Hollow body"

I'm not sure, bro. I see solid-body all over his Wiki article. I'm no expert, but hollow and solid are opposites, no?

I thought the reason he used the solid body was because hollow guitars (or acoustics) did not do well with amplification.

Thank-you Les Paul for crafting the best guitar ever!!! I've tried out and played many guitars over the years but as far as I'm concerned nothing can beat a Les Paul solid body with PAF pick-ups. It's an absolute workhorse.
RIP
