I'm still deep in my AC/DC binge, and have of late been listening to the stuff in the Bonfire set. Probably the coolest thing is the "soundtrack," to Let There Be Rock, the live Paris show that was the centerpiece of the 1980 (?) VHS/video, a video I unabashadly downloaded from a torrent recently (hey, it's unavailable otherwise).

Anyway, I highly suggest this show/CD for anybody interested in AC/DC, especially the Bon era. The video is fantastic, and the soundtrack is the equivelant to Beast On The Road from the Eddie's Archive set. i.e. it's better than previous official live releases in my opinion. A band firing on all cylinders at one of the most energized periods in their career. Angus is an animal in the video.

Let There Be Rock indeed.....

thanks. i'm going to check that out.
brian johnson is awsome but i always wonder where AC\DC would be now if bon scott was still here. that guy kicked ass!:headbang:
i think its time for an AC\DC binge myself!

I always liked Bon Scott a lot better then his replacement. And 'Let there be rock' is of course a hard rock classic of the 70s. It has a very good 'live in the studio' sound!

Hard to say where they would have gone actually. On the one hand Bon was awesome. Alas though, he was the oldest of the bunch and may not have aged so gracefully voice wise had he lived much longer. Hard to say though. Also, can you imagine Back In Black with any other singer? This is a conundrum I've always had in my mind. Bon died = terrible. Brian on Back In Black = fantastic. Then again, they may have just made another version of Back In Black, so to speak, that could have been fantastic. Highway to Hell was the highlight of the Bon years (for me), and so the follow up was bound to be great. It was, but I mean with Bon. He was one of a kind, a massive singer, and the live stuff I mentioned above is killer. Recorded just a few short months before his death, incidentally, and solid proof that he went out on top of his game.

Kerrazy, eh? ;)

He really seems possessed there... :D

Yes on both accounts. I had seen it about, oh, 15 years ago, maybe more, but not since. It should be rereleased on DVD, and probably will.

I saw it years ago and loved it... and i like both Bon and Brian.. but i think i lean more towards the Brian albums... but Angus shines through in all the albums.. they are in a class by themselves and im glad they have lasted this long and still attract the fans....

I think Brian gets a hard rap, actually. He's been in the band >25 years for f7ck's sake. Yeah, Bonn did the sexual double-entendre swagger better, but try to imagine Bonn doing "Shoot to Thrill" or even "For Those About to Rock." Imagine a 60 year old Bonn on stage. Not pretty. Bonn does sex better. Brian does EVIL better. I'll call it a draw, personally.

Brian's done a FINE job, with all respect to Bonn.

You'll get no argument from me, I like both equally. Both versions of the band are killer, and it stands out as one of the few changes of singer in a band that happened with no drop in quality, Maiden being the only other that comes to mind at the moment (speaking of Bruce, not Blaze obviously). Oh, and Sabbath with Dio and Gillan.

^^^^ If youse evil, your a friend of mine... :headbang:

Brian and Bon both rock equally. Recently I have been playing Flick of the Switch a lot. A couple of years back I hated this album, now I love it ... Maybe next year I will like Fly on the Wall.:err: Talking AC/DC: If you want blood is IMO the best hard rock live album ever. It just sounds and feels real.:worship:

It's mostly awesome, but I always hit "skip" when it comes to "The Jack." I've heard that song waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy too much and IMHO it's not that good anyway. They always play it live and the energy of the show always falls out the bottom when they do. To me it's just boring, particularly how they milk it along longer than they should.

Brian's voice is shot nowawadays though. I saw AC/DC in concert about 4 years ago and remember thinking how sad he sounded.

Still, with that said, his first three records with the band are ALL classics! Yes, I include Flick of the Switch there....I regard it as a classic....and as their heaviest record!

But, to my ears, Bonn was still a better front-man. He had the charisma that only the greatest frontmen exhibit. And his voice was unique and perfect for the band. Yes, Brian deserves credit, but, to me, Scott was superior.

There's no doubt that Brian's voice has lost more than one notch. It's a wheeze at best. However, I was surprised at how much I liked it on Stiff Upper Lip. Taken as its own thing, apart from the rest of their albums, it works pretty good there. That's a different album though, kinda funky and a little quiet. The whole band could be construed as losing a step, but I do think the sound on Stiff Upper Lip was deliberate, the style of it. But yeah, his glory days are long gone. 'Course, there was no way anybody could keep that up. I mean, singing with that ferocity is naturally in opposition with keeping one's voice. It's funny, but even back when the early Brian albums were coming out I used to think, "Man, this guys gonna blow his voice out!" That turned out to be true enough.

I remember seeing AC/DC on SNL in support of Stiff Upper Lip. Brian seemed to be squeezing the notes out by sheer will power alone. I was afraid his head was going to explode.

I know his voice is technically shot, but I admire him anyway for soldiering on. He'll always be a favorite of mine.

I'm 100% in the Bon Scott camp as far as AC/DC goes. I really haven't liked anything after For Those About To Rock. Anyone here snag that Bon Scott Years DVD from EZT a year or so ago? GREAT stuff..... 2 Rock Goes to College performances as well as the live footage from IYWBYGI recording...
Great sound, great picture.

p.s. Not dissin' Brian Johnson, great replacement, great first 3 releases, but to me AC/DC IS the Bon Scott Era
