Let's see a final show of hands.

Will you be attending Heathen Crusade III?

No. My attendance was linked to the attendance of a few other friends. They're not going, so I'm going to pass.

This year's line up cements a trend, of this festival moving backwards.

Greg, give me 5 bands that you would like to see appear under the HC banner. I really don't know what you're expecting from this festival. Obama is not going to MC this thing.

Ancient Rites
Moonsorrow
Woods of Ypres
Inquisition
Metsattol
Velnias
etcetera

Looks solid to me.

How about 33 (or as I like to call it, 1/20.18182 the number of the beast)?

Akercocke
Agalloch
Ajattara
Amesoeurs
Amorphis
Blood Red Throne
Carpathian Forrest
Darkestrah
Daylight Dies
Destroyer 666
Drudkh
Enslaved
Gorgoroth
Gwynbleidd
Ihsahn
In Vain
Klabautamann
Mgla
The Morningside
Naglfar
Novembers Doom
October Falls
Old Man's Child
Orphaned Land
Primordial
Raventale
Satyricon
Secrets of the Moon
Swallow the Sun
Thurisaz
Thyrfing
Vader
Wolves in the Throne Room

Granted, not all are a flawless fit. However, if Slough Feg and whoever last year's crappy Power Metal headliner was (their name is escaping me) fit the motif, than any of these bands would be acceptable.

I really don't know what you're expecting from this festival. Obama is not going to MC this thing.
Well, I wouldn't expect them to be able to lock down our next President, but how about someone from the second tier ticket? Preferably Palin. She can do her little "raise the roof" move while Ancient Rites plays or at least throw us horns:

Ancient Rites - solid
Moonsorrow - very solid
Woods of Ypres - no interest
Inquisition - who?
Metsattol - who?
Velnias - who?
etcetera - who?

Looks solid to me.
Yeah... but you think Palin was a solid V.P. pick, so your take on "solid" is disqualified until further notice.

In the end, it wasn't the line-up that kept me away. And as I said, had the old school RCers gone, I would have gone. However, without them, the line-up alone wasn't enough to get me to Minnesota in winter.

RiA's taste in metal is usually pretty solid. There is no reason to compare his politics with his taste in metal.

By the way Greg, you might really enjoy Velnias!

It's my understanding that Ali & Jason are both attending.

As far as Obama is concerned, his charcoaled skin is helping the plight of Proposition 8. If Negars and I have one thing in common, it's our mutual hatred towards faggots. I applaud these simian sub-humans for scorching the earth with fiery speeches that contest faggotry and propose that marriage should be made exclusively between a male monkey and a female monkey.

in brief...

Akercocke - Eh
Agalloch - They were asked, couldn't do it this year.
Ajattara - Never heard a note
Amesoeurs - I'm game
Amorphis - Doesn't fit the mold and they're currently on a US tour
Blood Red Throne - Absolute shit
Carpathian Forrest - Is that fat guy still in the group?!? Flying would be hard on his diabetes
Darkestrah - Only if the chick exposed her tits
Daylight Dies - These chaps toured the U.S just a couple months ago
Destroyer 666 - Good Choice
Drudkh - Good Choice
Enslaved - Good choice
Gorgoroth - Gaahl is too busy with his metrosexual clothing line
Gwynbleidd - Played the second (can't do it this year any how)
Ihsahn - He's too cool
In Vain - Wouldn't fit the mold
Klabautamann - Good choice
Mgla - Boring as fuck
The Morningside - I'll have to check these lads out.
Naglfar - Blargh
Novembers Doom - Played the first
October Falls - One man band.
Old Man's Child - Faggot shit
Orphaned Land - Good choice, I'd love to see them next year.
Primordial - played the first one
Raventale - Another one man band, no go.
Satyricon - They would probably end up playing all their new junk.
Secrets of the Moon - Good choice
Swallow the Sun - Always on tour, check your local listings
Thurisaz - Eh?
Thyrfing - Played the first HC
Vader - Don't fit the bill, they tour nationally semi-often
Wolves in the Throne Room - They tour the west constantly, an east coast tour is bound to happen

Give me another 33

Who?
Who?
Who?

Greg, you need to watch less MSNBC and start branching out musically.

I question the real purpose of the Recommendations sub section if you don't know who Velnias is. People should definitely be checking that section out more often.

I actually thought Nov 14 & 15 were completely different dates, now that I've realized they are Fri/Sat, I'll probably be going. I want to see Moonsorrow, and especially Velnias and Inquisition.

RiA's taste in metal is usually pretty solid. There is no reason to compare his politics with his taste in metal.
I'm just busting his balls.

By the way Greg, you might really enjoy Velnias!
Cool. I'll check them out.

It's my understanding that Ali & Jason are both attending.

Give me another 33.
Look, at the first installment, you had three very solid headliners, Novembers Doom and The Chasm. The festival should have grown from there. It hasn't and the ticket sales reflect that.

Greg, you need to watch less MSNBC...
And watch the O'Reilly Factor or some st0rmfr0nt podcast?

I watch CNN and MSNBC. But mostly, I get my news from a variety of web sources.

... and start branching out musically.
Give me three discs I need to hear. I'm always happy to discover something new.

I question the real purpose of the Recommendations sub section if you don't know who Velnias is. People should definitely be checking that section out more often.
Agreed. It no longer serves a purpose.

We should replace it with an off-topic political forum. That's pretty much the direction in which this board is heading. Greg, I couldn't give you 3 discs to listen to, your musical taste is enigmatic.

So are Ali and Jason not committed this year? I was really looking forward to having a brew with them. :erk:
