Yes there are alot of festivals in Europe over the summer, but still surprising this one bit the dust... low ticket sales of course. Interesting lineup.
hahaha Lillehammer! Unless it's all Nordic black metal bands, I can't see tripping to the arctic circle for a fest. That being said, I always thought it'd be funny to have a metal festival in Hammerfest, NO, which is just a wee bit further north
There was, maybe still is, an annual music festival in Hell. Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden have played there a time or two, even Dimmu was there once.

Norway is so expensive that this isn't surprising. It's really really hard to run a festival in Scandinavia because the municipalities usually aren't cool with it, so you have to pay a huge fee to them. That is, unless you're Inferno Fest and you can just use a regular rock venue for it. Also Norway's taxes make everything so expensive that it's tough to attract tourists.
This festival was meant to be next weekend and they cancelled due to low ticket sales. The guys behind this one was rather new to the game and had nothing to with the previous festival that took place back in 2008.
Reason for the low ticket sales i believe is a mix of the line up and location. Lillehammer is aprox 2 hours north of Oslo and much less population in that area and people got a lot of festivals to choose from during the summer and they hadn't what the people wanted.
Just a quick note to AeonicSlumber: Yes, it's expensive here, but to say we don't attract tourists is wrong. There is always people with money and lot's of them come here. Where i live the cruise ships alone brings close to 70000 people to the city every summer. We got the biggest animal park/ water park in Norway and on a nice sunny day around 25000 people visit.
