LINE 6 ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF X2 WIRELESS

Get the X2 wireless (rack model) .. it's amazing. Seriously as good as my Mogami cable connection. Also, Line 6 aquaried the X2 company, but isn't going to be making the wireless systems. X2 as a company is the same and will continue with business as usual. However, Line 6 will probably come out with some products to utilize this 24-bit digital wireless transmition.

Craziness. I have never heard of X2 but I thought of the basic product idea about a year ago. Awesome that it exists and this could be a radical paradigm shift in how live sound is done, especially if combined with Line 6 stuff.

What I want to see is a unit that is capable of handling several microphones at once. And then, also, like guitar systems that have the little transmitter, like the AKG Bug system, a small transmitter to plug into the back of a mic that would have to be capable of providing phantom power for condensors. This would make it possible to mic up a set of drums without using any cables. Each unit could handle, for example, 8 microphones, kinda like most interfaces these days. Then have a 1/4" or XLR output for each microphone channel coming out of the back of the wireless unit. Imagine....being able to mic up a drumset without any cables...man...that would be freakin awesome IMO, and to top it off it's all transmitting and recieving at 24-bit.

I understand that most wireless units that exist are capable of handling like 2 signals. I am not sure why there is such a limited amount, but I know there are plenty of frequencies to go around...

Yea I'm curious what they are gonna come up with.

Certainly there are integrated systems that allow you to use many wireless units but in live sound the rule of thumb is that "a $2000 wireless system is almost as reliable as a $10 cable."
Anyone who has ever spent time retuning the frequencies on multiple units or gotten spontaneous interference mid-show will tell you that we are a very long way from running things completely wirelessly. Plus there is the issue of overloading the transmitters that you can't get to. Plus there is variation in the quality of reception- which digital WL would manifest as total dropouts.
Running 20 XLR's is far easier than getting 20 wireless units to play nice consistently--that is for sure IME.

I hope they make a wireless modeler that has Nady wireless modeling. haha. Relive the excitement and glory days of fucking hating everything because of your Nady shit.

Hahaha! Totally! I remember reading ads in GFTPM with my favorite cock rock bands promoting Nady wireless ... and then being totally disappointed by it.

Every since I went to Shure (guitar) and Sennheiser (in-ear) wireless, all the problems disappeared, haha ...
