Is this project worth owning? Obviously, it's 3/4 Dream Theater, and it's all instrumental. But that's fine.....the question is this: are the songs mostly aimless noodling, or are the songs tightly structured a la Joe Satriani, for example?

Another one I'm highly bias to write objectively. When it started it was 1/2 DT plus a guy from the Dixie Dregs (now I love his keyboard works) and the amazing Tony Levin, so I was pretty much into having it and I'm not regret it a bit.

LTE it's beyond DT, it's much more progressive IMO, much more energetic, much more technical and you don't miss vocals at all. I tend to like more the second album but the debut between the opener and the last one (an exercise in progressive S&M) alone is enough to crack me up (in a good sense).

Have you ever heard Spastic Ink? I love that too and to me they will qualify more for 'aimless noodling' than LTE (note I use quotes since I like SI odd signatures and structures).

In anycase I recommend extensively LTE to any fan of prog metal.

*thanks for the idea SM :D*

I love LTE!! And yea, the songs are build around song structures. You could hum along if you want to. So no worries there :)

Thanks Wyvern, Hawk. I shall check them out!

I'm sure (like Hawk is) that you'll enjoy it.

I don't know why but I find myself sharing a lot of your opinions TSO :D ;)

Same for me concerning LTE, I like it quite a bit but it's definitely melodic wankery, and it has a different approach from Joe Satriani and the likes.

I disagree regarding wankery. Malmsteen it's wankery, Time Requiem it's wankery (and I like both) but LTE it's good prog.

I have noticed that people who dislike prog in forums accuse it of wankery, I don't know how much this misconception is permeating through the people at UMOS. But trust me it's a misconception :D

That's not gone un-noticed by me either, Fang...and, of course, I always enjoy spending time with someone who agrees with me! :headbang:

Same here, or could we say that TSO agrees a lot of times with us?
Depends on who said it first, my fine feathered friend! But it's all the same, and all good! :p

That's Wyvern for you, ever the monkey wrench in the machine. I love ya Wyv, but sometimes I think yer fulla shit! If you don't think LTE is wankery, you and I have a completely different definition of the term.

Ive got the first liquid tensions experiment and it is worth getting
Ive also got a double VHS set of Mike Portnoy - the first one he shows how to play a few LTE songs and on the second one he shows how to play a few DT songs - that is also definately worth picking up, if you are a drummer that is

It's pretty obvious, isn't it? ;)
