how can you not have the song "piece of my heart"? thats probably her 2nd most well known tune after her cover of kris kristofferson's "me and bobby mcgee". i like her version of the bee gee's "to love somebody" from woodstock and the tune "move over".

no woman in the history of rock ever sang with as much soul as this mofo.

Seems to me there was a stellar version of Take Another Piece of My Heart from the Monterey festival. I was looking for it awhle back on youtube but couldnt find it so maybe Im confusing things again but what ever I saw on some VHI program sent chills right through me.

Myself I always thought Etheridge got the Joplin gene, rather than post one of her faster passionate screamers we have all heard, heres about my favorite song

Then there was Cindy Givens from Zephyr, one of Tommy Bolins early bands who you would darn near think was Janis

do you have any clue what year or backing band she was using? i can narrow it down from there if you knew whether big brother or full tilt boogie was with her

I have no clue, I only thought the footage was from the Montery pop festival which was before Woodstock maybe even '68

if i had to guess its the version from winterland '68.

see if thats it. janis did not play the tune "piece of my heart" at the montery pop festival

Did she play Cry Baby ? I have also been known to get those two songs confused.

It was live footage, so not this one and Im begining to think it was Cry Baby.

all they played were:
1. Down On Me
2. Combination Of The Two
3. Harry
4. Roadblock
5. Ball And Chain

they were an unsigned band in 1967 when the festival took place. janis didn't do "piece of my heart" until '68 and "cry baby" until about '70. if you liked that version i posted you can get that entire concert on cd for $5.00 at wal mart.

you sure it wasn't the woodstock version?

only live footage i can find are these 2:

I dont know, I cant find it now either or its Ball and Chain but that really doesnt have the part I remember. Its not the Toronto footage either. I cant remember if it was a documentary on Montery, Janis or the era. Or if I have a few different ones mixed up in my head. It was probably only 4 years ago at the most I saw it too.

i was wrong. they filmed 2 songs janis did at monterey and one of them was "ball and chain"

I was gonna say that this morning because I watched that last night, there was also something about it in some documentary there a part 1 & 2. Apparently later they played again to be filmed, not any details about how they cut the deal though. Thats why I say it might have been Ball and Chain, I remember seeing Cass's reaction but something else that stuck in my mind didnt seem to be there. Like I said, I give up, Im confused and just dont remember enough details. I could swear it was a live concert, outside, daylight not spot light and the song was Take Another Piece of My Heart... but then it could have been Cry Baby.
