Speaking with Dawn Osborne of TotalRock, rock icon, Lita Ford, offers an update on her upcoming new album, the follow-up to 2012’s Living Like A Runaway.
Asked if she has a title for the new record, Lita responds, “Yes [laughing], but I’m trying to wait until we get a record label signed. And so once I do, then I can tell you everything.” And when does Lita think the album will be released? “I don’t know, soon, I hope. Fingers crossed. We’re working on it.”
Dawn Osborne: “You’ve said it’s a ‘dark fairytale,’ is it autobiographical?”
Lita Ford: “You know, it is, it is. I had to live it before I could write it. Sounds a little creepy and everything, but it’s pretty cool. It’s a dark fairytale, à la… I don’t know, à la Shrek. And I love Shrek. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the Shrek movies. I mean, there’s no green people in it or anything like that, and there’s no ogres. Well, I guess there are ogres, yeah.”
Dawn: “Somebody said that it might be inspired by The Bride Wore Black [unreleased album, co-produced by Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi] that hasn’t been released yet.”
Lita: “Yeah, yeah.. yes. I don’t want to say any more, because I’m going to put my foot right in it. So much to talk about.”
Dawn: “You said that it deals with personal loss, possible addiction issues, not necessarily yours, but, you know, that it’s going to be relatable to people?”
Lita: “Yeah. Yeah, I don’t know about the addiction.”
Dawn: “Drug rehab, or something?”
Lita: “No [laughing], NO! No, no, there’s nothing in it about rehab or addiction. No. It’s not that kind of dark fairytale. No.”
Later, Dawn asks about Lita’s single with German metal queen Doro Pesch…
Lita: “I did a single with Doro, yes, it’s waiting to come out, and I’m dying. It’s so good.”
