Just curious if anyone here knows or if any of the posting band members could possibly tell us what their views are as pertains to RoIO's (Recording of Indeterminate Origin) of their shows.

I know there are trading circles for numerous prog/prog metal bands (Spock's Beard, DT, Porcupine Tree, etc) and I'm wondering if there is there opposition to people trading past shows to a) add to their Enchant collections and b) spread the word and increase awareness of the band and their material?

I've got something a bit more specific to say on the matter, but further commentary/information is dependent on the responses to the question.

Yes - I've been wondering this myself. As I have 3 Enchant shows on CD.

I would LOVE to get a copy of those shows from you. MP3s? SHNs? Can you help me out on that?
My ICQ is 243493.........

Thanks!!

I certainly understand, as a fan, the allure of a bootleg recording of my favorite band...God knows I have my fair share of Saga, Jellyfish, Tears for Fears, Utopia, Rundgren, Rush, etc. The quality is always usually a nightmare with some dude screaming into to mic "Fuck Yeah!" or "Whooa!" or whatever, but you get the feel like you are kind of there and that's pretty cool. For Enchant I always want to have a certain amount of control over what's out there. I realize that that's really impossible, but I cring at the idea of a "bad" or "off" performance being spread around. It seems like every tour Ted or I get a cold and a couple of shows are fucked vocally or something weird happens on stage with the monitors or whatever. But hey that's why it's live right! We're human and not machines and yes we do make mistakes...and you thought we were perfect!:tickled:
Anyway, I don't mind bootleg recordings being shared or traded but if someone's selling them for $ then I'm pissed! So if anybody is selling Enchant shows, let me know so I can track them down and break their legs! For those of you who are trading or just sharing shows...have fun! If you come across a good one let me know about it; I might like to hear it myself!

Thanks,

Doug

Thanks for sharing your views on the trading scene. I'd inquired because I've seen a few shows made available and wanted to spread the word to those who post/read/lurk here that there's some collector/keepsake kinda material being freely shared. Someone beat me to it before I knew what anyone in the band thought, but my guess is their intentions mirrored mine.

Anyhow, I'm glad you made a point about liking to excercise some sort of control but understanding the allure of the taped live show. But what is more pleasing is you saying that you're ok with shows circulating provided no one is making a profit from it.

Ultimately there's two ways I've accepted when looknig at taping and trading:
"Buy what the musician sells, share freely what they allow us to share."
"Share the groove."
