Go with Neutrik connectors.
If it's for mics, monitors, or balanced TRS cables, get balanced cabling. I use Mogami 2549.
For instruments, use unbalanced.

I guess this would be as good a place to ask as any - speaker cable is just really thick instrument cable, right? (seeing as how both are unbalanced TS, I can't imagine what other difference there would be)

Nope. Speaker cable requires pair(s) of like-sized conductors. Instrument cables are typically a single conductor and a shield.
Hmm, cool, thank you! Not exactly sure what a "conductor" is if you can have variations in their amount within cables that are all TS, but I guess I'll just leave well enough alone and use each for its purpose (I think I can handle a little blind faith when it comes to protecting thousands of dollars of gear!)
