He is a leader in the Nation of Islam. He's one of the most hated people in the United States.
As I remember, he believes the different races should stay separate, which is stupid. But he did some amazing things. He organized the Million Man March, which was a truly brilliant idea. In theory, it would have given american blacks the power they deserve. He tried to get all african americans to vote in unison. This would give them the power to determine the outcome of each election. Would have been real power. Did not work for some reason.
The media portrays him as a racist antisemite. There is some truth to that portrayal. However, given the amount of attention our country gives to Israel and the lack of attention our country gives to blacks, I can hardly fault him. I don't think he truly hates asians, whites, or jews, but he is certainly portrayed that way. He's just said a few (or maybe more than a few) non-P.C. things that have scared the shit out of many americans.
He also called Obama "America's first Jewish President."
