hey yall - lets see if you can help me out - how on earth does dave get that warm creamy sound on his tom drums?

i heard something before but im not sure if its real. that they recorded a tom and a snare and mixed them together but on the snare they eq'd all the mids and bass right out of the mix and kept the high end of the snare to get a certain tone. im not even sure if this would sound right.

i would love to hear others opinions on how its done.

its a warm creamy sound / there is a really high end smack off the toms and a really tight sounding roll on the toms.

thanks for any help - keep it metal

no mate, only pulling your twang - thats my internut name for the last 9 years. email, login names etc are all mick thompson - im just a big fan of his.

on the + side i did meet some famous people in my life, go to meet machine head a few weeks ago in germany - great bunch of lads, really sound guys. i was talking to them at the with full force fest in lipzig. i quite regularly i speak to chris amott from arch enemy, i got his email a few years back (he sent me over some beautiful caparison sig. plecs) , this chap aint famous but i got to meet machine heads drum tech in dublin (my home town) a few months back and when i went to germany i heard he died tragically. pity, he was such a nice guy (rip), i got to meet machine heads "go for" - al, he's a cool guy, a serious machine head fan, tattoo's all over himself. he just followed the band around to loads of their gigs until they decided to hire him.

and thats about it..sorry for shiting on. i got into the "zone"

you can send me a kick up the ass via pm if you like.

Offtopic here.

tell chris amott i love him XDDD and he is my god
Seriously.

now im going to sleep and dream with having the arch enemy's Doomsday machine guitar tone

yea i asked him about that a while back - as far as i know it was his plan when he left AE to work on that but i guess he got too busy with doing what he had to do. i can imagine we will start to see some of his solo work within the next year or two. when im chatting again i'll mention that to him and see what he says

haha dude i met him at bloodstock and told him the same thing...i think he thought i actuly ment it and was bent or something!

but yeah dude get chris to post on here!!!!!!!

I did the same with Alexi Laiho, he just looked at me weird and said "oh......thanks".

Surely that would give you a load of attack and not so much cream? Plus you'd have to tune the snare to each of the toms, which seems like a Hell of a lot of work.

I'm pretty sure I've seen videos of them recording with pads instead of actual kick drums though, so who knows what kinda funky shit they get up to.
