IRON MAIDEN, SLAYER, KORN, MEGADETH, OZZY OSBOURNE and ALICE IN CHAINS are among the nominees for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The nominees in the "Hard Rock" and "Metal" categories are as follows:

Best Hard Rock Performance

* ALICE IN CHAINS - "A Looking In View" (from "Black Gives Way to Blue")
* OZZY OSBOURNE - "Let Me Hear You Scream" (from "Scream")
* SOUNDGARDEN - "Black Rain" (from "Telephantasm")
* STONE TEMPLE PILOTS - "Between The Lines" (from "Stone Temple Pilots")
* THEM CROOKED VULTURES - "New Fang" (from "Them Crooked Vultures")

Best Metal Performance

* IRON MAIDEN - "El Dorado" (from "The Final Frontier")
* KORN - "Let The Guilt Go" (from "Korn III: Remember Who You Are")
* LAMB OF GOD - "In Your Words" (from "Wrath")
* MEGADETH - "Sudden Death" (from "Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock")
* SLAYER - "World Painted Blood" (from "World Painted Blood")

Material released between September 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010 (a 13-month period) is eligible for the 2011 Grammys.

The 53rd annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live in high definition TV and 5.1 Surround Sound on CBS from 8:00 p.m. EST.

The nominees were announced earlier tonight (Wednesday, December 1) during the "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music Biggest Night". The announcement special was hosted by rap legend LL Cool J, a two-time Grammy award winner who is also producer of the Grammy nominations concert.

I know this shit doesn't mean too much, but it is still kinda cool to see Maiden listed there, and really, they should be taking that one home for sure. Pity the hard rock and metal categories aren't album specific rather than 'performance', but anyway.

That is kinda cool. Maiden's the only band there not to have won a Grammy already, so it would be nice for them. I doubt they care much though, but it's a box that hasn't been ticked yet.

Notice how all those bands have been around for quite a long time now? Does that say more about the state of modern music, or just the music that the Grammy Awards reward?

Who actually has the dosh do buy the votes needed for nomination? Cause new rock and metal bands, in general, need to work hard for every dollar. Those bands there have worked their arses of, and are all hopefully comfortable these days

You know if Metallica was nominated no other band would have a chance. They vote for the bands they've heard of, or the bands their hangers-on have heard of.

Korn have their place in heavy music history. Like them or not, they have undergone the transition from trendy newcomers to a classic act of their respective subgenre.

Yeah, they really are. Still good to see Maiden getting recognition by any measure though IMO.
