If I remember right these pedals were used on Carcass' Heartwork. Now of course that album has incredible sound but is the pedal worth spending money on? I have an Maxon OD808 and Boss HM-2 (for the really dirty stuff), would the Guv'nor provide me with something extra? Does any one here have any experience with this pedal and possibly the differences between the original and the newer Guv'nor IIplus version? Any replies would be helpful :)

It's not worth it man, it's like saying you should buy the MT-2 because Cannibal Corpse use it, when 99% of their tone comes from the Triple Recto rig's they use. Stick with the OD808 and save up for a good tube amp, pedals should generally be used for a little extra overdrive, either to tighten stuff up, or to push the amp a little harder. And IMO Marshall should stick to making amps/cabs.

Hehe, I get what your saying. I do not intend to get the pedal to get "the heartwork sound" or whatever. It's just that that is the only recording that I know these pedals played a role in. I'm wondering whether this pedal would be valuable to add some new sounds or whether it is not useful as anything more than a boost (in which case I am fine with the OD808).

As far as I know, these pedals don't offer any tone worth the money. I've never ever heard any good comments about them, I guess just try one out and see if it sounds good to your ears.
