I was wondering what your opinions on this amp are???

I am really keen on getting this head with a 1960 cab.. but then I wanna know what other Cabs go well with this head :hotjump:

I really like having a clean channel.. a decent one for clean solos and acoustic sections.. but then i wanna know if it's distortion can rip your balls off?

:loco: Cheers guys :D

Hmm, i wouldn't bother with modern marshalls. I'm not happy with the dsl i got at all. Good older marshalls just eat them for breakfast.

That said if it works for you then great, go for it!

If you wanna get a marshall cab go for one that doesn't have those Gt75 speakers or whatever they're called, those suck. That'd be the cheapest range of marshall cabs, they just aren't worth a shit.

You might wanna check out the 4x12 shootout thread that Matt posted for some sound clips of some better cabs, like the mesa stuff. Mesa cabs pee all over the cheaper marshall stuff imo.

If you want a Marshall with ball ripping distortion, get a Voodoo Modded Marshall JCM. Trace from Voodoo Mods will get you some of the most brutally awesome distortion ever. www.voodooamps.com

Go here, Trace happens to have a Modded TSL100 for sale, that thing will just rape for high gain metal...

My band mate plays a TSL 2000, and he gets a ripping tone out of it. I A/B'ed it with a 5150 when I was buying a new head and the 5150 beat it in tone for me, but the Marshall is a lot more versitile overall and I still liked the sound.

I used to have a DSL 100 back in '98, one of the first when they came out, and it sounded amazing. I tried one that my friend had not long ago, and I wasn't as impressed by it. For the TSL 100, I've heard some great tones come out of it. It doesn't sound as "thick" as some modern amps, but the "bite" and "attack" is certainly there. The clean channels on both are nice, and you do have some pretty good versatility with them.

With that said, I wouldn't pay the prices they ask new for them, and I stilll prefer my JCM 800 2204 head I have to both of them. But, you lack the versatility of the other amps, so it's a trade off. If you're looking for soemthing with that thick Recto-ish, modern sound...the TSL/DSL isn't the amp IMO. If you want a versatile amp with some great tones and "bite" in it, then I think you'd be happy with them.

The 1960A/B cabs aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Granted, I'm a Mesa 4X12 user and prefer Vintage 30's, but the 1960A/B cabs aren't all bad.

Actually I've had a TSL100 since 1999, and it can be pretty ripping (especially with those EMG pickups you all love so much). I mean sure it's not up there with like an Engl or a Diezel, or a Bogner, but it definitely does not suck. It's also obnoxiously loud, like I've never ever had it up past 1.5 without it shaking the whole house and being audible two floors up, even with the treatments in the live room.

The general consesus of the board is that modern Marshalls suck, the JCM2000 series being no exception to the rule.

I know a guy in a brutal death metal band who plays an Engl Powerball, he played a Voodoo Modded JCM and said it destroyed the Engl. Said it was the heaviest amp he's ever played.

When modded, I know any amp can be brutal. I shouldn't have spoken in such absolitives, though.

Yeah, Trace does amazing work. He modded Ken from Unearth's 5150, and that thing just sounds insane. If I ever buy another 5150 (which I'm sure I will) I'm definetely getting it modded by Trace.

I know the common trend seems to be ignoring everything I say, but,

Trace and Voodoo are the same people?

either way, how would it compare to having Soundsmith/Harry Kolbe, Bradshaw, or Bogner do the mods?

Trace is Voodoo Mods, yes. I'm not too familiar with those other guys you listed, so I wouldn't know how Trace's work compares. I know he does awesome work though.
