How do u guys do when mastering? Would be really nice if you could share some tips and maybe your mastering chain since i feel its relatively few topics about it. I've not really looking into it much , but i feel i got pretty decent loudness comparing to the professional mixes. I compared Downfall - Dream on Dreamer that is mastered by Cameron and mine was actually in avg louder. But i feel that it lacks in dynamic and it may be pumping a bit. Would really need some advice on how to fix this without sacrificing the loudness!
And does someone have any tips to get the sub drops to fit in the mix? I don't like how my sounds :/

I am interested in this as well. Also how do you tell rms in reaper? honestly i always just kinda do loudness by ear and hope that im not squashing my track like a little bug.

I check with iZotope, and my avg rms on this track was around 4 dB. If u use gclip u can watch that u just clip the peaks and not clip the whole song to oblivion ;-)

When I master, I try to get the mix to max out around -6 RMS, and then I apply my basic mastering chain and go from there. However my computer is a bit older and my mixes are a bit off from 'commercial' reference volume...

I tend to think that real slight pumping can give heaps of character to your mix. Handle with care! Major pumping just doesn´t sound great at all.
And with the Subs, this a common issue i´ve heard and have been asked alot recently... Treat your Subs like an instrument! Mix them like all the other tracks in your mix. Don´t punch in the Subs to the Stereo-Mix/Master later on. It works really nice for me, and that´s the advice i can give you.
